What Guests Are Saying
Hunter Canyon Group Site offers a beautiful natural setting with great hiking opportunities and clean facilities, making it an attractive camping option. However, some campers experienced issues such as locked gates, poor communication, and remoteness that can lead to feelings of unease. Additionally, there were concerns about flooding due to its proximity to the river, which could be better highlighted in the site's information.

Wasn’t able to camp here bc gate was locked. No one answered the number. Never got a response. Never got a refund. Had to drive 60 miles to find a different campsite available.

It was a great site with hiking not to fare away. In the evening got to see some of the local wild life pass through.

wish their was more communication that this was a lone site! felt slightly unsafe without any other campers / campsites also at the head of the atv trail. the dust & the noise were truly awful. didn’t spend the night but drove out to the kings bottom site & stayed there.

It was a little difficult to find -- directions only led us 2/3 of the way there and we only figured out how much further we had to continue on that windy road after backtracking to get service. Great site, though! Lots of space, great views, and the pit toilet was convenient and clean.

Campsite flooded, in a super remote area miles away from the host… a bit disappointing that no one came by our site to warn us considering we were so low to the river. Had to pack our stuff and drive to high ground. Sad that this wasn’t more clear in the listing, it warned about possible flooding, but it says that for sites 10 ft above the river. Ours was 2-3 max.

Beautiful spot! I was taught the "sandwich" style of performance review, in which you start with the good, mention room for improvement, and then conclude with good vibes.
The good: this is a beautiful site! It's about 20 minutes to and from Moab, which makes it fairly remote but still accessible. The campsite is located at the confluence of two canyons; the road continues up Kane Creek Canyon while Hunter Canyon branches out to the east (it's a beautiful hike!). It was March when we visited, and we had the place to ourselves in the morning and evenings. Except for one night when a group of nature lovers partied in the parking lot for a couple hours listening to music.
We rode the Hymasa > Captain Ahab trail one day, which is burly and beautiful. The Jeep trail on amasa back is insane. The Amasa Back parking lot is only a few minutes drive from camp.
We packed gear to climb at the nearby Ice Cream Parlour but never made it over there. It rained the last two days of our trip and we opted to go for a hike instead. There is a lot to do in this canyon!
The bad: tent sites were fairly limited. If you have more than 3 tents you might end up sleeping fairly close to the other people in your group. There was room for several smaller tents down by the creek but if you have more than 4 or 5 tents in your group it will be a little bit crowded. We had four tents at one point with two large tents that had to be places close together.
There is some noise and traffic nearby, which should be obvious. This is an entrance to some jeep trails to the SW. Also, Moab is busy. We went in March and enjoyed less traffic (and also some cooler temps). If you are looking to explore other areas around Moab it can make for a lot of driving (~35 to 40 minutes round trip just to get to and from Moab).
tldr; Beautiful Site! Kind of remote which adds to driving time. Isolated spot with only one campsite which makes for some memorable and quiet evenings. Good biking and climbing nearby.

It looked like a nice group spot, but I booked late in the day and the gate was locked. No way to get into the site and lack of clear directions on how to get in.

The space was beautiful and had plenty of room for tent camping and mobile camping. The only downside of the site is that it was right next to a road that was heavily traveled by ATV/4W drive activities. However, on the other hand, it was on right next to ATV/4W routes/trails.
