About Simpson Springs Campground

The campground is situated on the eastern edge of Utah's West Desert near the historic Simpson Springs station on the Pony Express National Historic Trail. Simpson Springs was the site of a significant Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp in the late 1930s and early 1940s, just prior to the establishment of the US Army Dugway Proving Grounds during World War II.

What Guests Are Saying

Simpson Springs Campground is praised for its beautiful vistas, cleanliness, and convenient facilities, making it a great spot for groups and stargazing. The pavilion is well-equipped and offers shelter from the sun, though visitors should be prepared for windy conditions. However, issues like reserved sites being occupied, occasional maintenance concerns, and disturbances from noisy campers can detract from the experience.

The Campground is incredible. The area is incredible. Unfortunately for us, the pit toilets were not maintained. They were filthly inside and completly out of toilet paper. That was a little disapointing...

The campground was great. Super remote and sparsely populated. The drive out there from the Toole side was neat, 25 miles down a bumpy dirt road but totally doable with a trailer. Went in November and the temperatures were perfect.

I had reserved site 3 but upon arrival, found someone in my site. They refused to move but luckily there were a plethora of other sites to choose from. Would have been a different story had the place been full - especially with the drive.

Have always enjoyed staying at Simpson Springs campground as it is usually quiet, pretty well kept up, and convenient for driving out to spend a day in the geode beds.

Almost all the camping (tent) platforms have a ton of weeds in them. I spent nearly an hour cleaning out my platform (#7) so that I could put my tent down. The bathrooms however look like they have been very well kept clean and stocked with toilet paper. Other than the weedy tent platforms the camping trip was nice and peaceful.
