What Guests Are Saying
The campground at Spruces in Big Cottonwood Canyon offers beautiful scenery, friendly staff, and well-maintained sites, making it a popular choice for campers. Many visitors appreciate the peaceful atmosphere, great hiking options, and clean facilities, despite some complaints about the restroom situation and water availability. While there have been issues with locked bathrooms and high traffic on weekends, overall experiences highlight the campground's charm and natural beauty.

We had a really unfortunate experience when we arrived at the campground. This was for my daughters 20th birthday. She wanted to have a campfire and make s'mores with the family. At no fault of the campground, the line up the canyon was insane so it took us over an hour to get there but the worst part was when we arrived onsite and had a horrid interaction with the campground lady. The gates were completely locked up. After a minute of sitting there, a woman came up in her golf cart and asked if we were with the other group she just took in. She was super friendly until she realized I wasn't... I said no and said I had made a reservation weeks in advance then she proceeded to tell me that the campground was closed starting that day and we weren't allowed in. I asked her why another group was allowed in there and why did it let me make a reservation if it was closed? She continued to be rude and couldn't offer any real explanation, but blamed it on a nameless person that was "supposed to call and cancel" our reservation. It was an extremely frustrating experience and that woman's attitude and interaction with us was rubbing salt in the wound on what should have a been a beautiful, fun fall day up the canyon.

3 of the past 4 years the restrooms have not been working. Porta-potties have been brought in. Labor Day weekend had these filled.

The road up to the campground was extremely busy, with start and stop traffic the entire way. Would not recommend staying on a weekend.

Great group campsite in a truly beautiful, little campground. Plenty of parking for groups as well.
