Spruces Campground in Big Cottonwood offers a beautiful and well-maintained setting, with friendly hosts and ample opportunities for outdoor activities, making it a favorite among visitors. Many guests appreciate the clean campsites and the picturesque surroundings, including nearby streams and hiking trails. However, the ongoing lack of running water and functional restrooms, which has persisted for several years, has been a significant concern for many campers, affecting their overall experience.

Positives: Easy reservation system. Beautiful venue. Campsites were very clean. Noise level from other campers was little to none. Portable restrooms were amazingly clean and not stinky. The stream was beautiful and mesmerizing. Crazy hailstorm that almost collapsed our canopies (loved it!). Plenty of parking for our group. Camp hosts and attendants were very helpful and friendly.
Negatives: No water (had to bring our own). No flush restrooms available (porta-potties only). Campground is next to the highway to Brighton so we had to deal with traffic noise late into the night and very early in the morning. One of our sites had only one possible tent location, but we managed.
Bottom line: We would absolutely camp here again. I just hope they get the water figured out by next time.

Our family loves Spruces campground. The spaces are far apart, mostly, and provide shade. The area is lush with greenery and the sound of small streams running through the area. The honey pots are cleaned regularly.
This year, we discovered the trailhead to donut falls. We wish there was a parking spot down at the end of the campground for campers to park and shorten the hike.

This campground is in a great location with scenic views from any location. The overall experience was great. The water was not functional during our stay, so Honey Buckets were the option instead of restrooms. It seems like this is a common issue year after year. It would be nice to actually have bathrooms as planned. They also are allowing fires right now, even with pretty significant restrictions, but don't have firewood onsite as advertised. Besides these few things we will be going back.

Had a great time at Spruces. Kids hiked and biked around the campground.
We even went fishing at Silver Lake and caught some trout. Had them for lunch, good times!!

The chipmunks around the site were so aggressive, they climbed up my son’s back and got on the table while we were sitting there. I spent a lot of time trying to scare them away, barking like a dog and feeling like a fool😆. I assume previous campers had fed them and even petted them; they had no fear. In previous years at this exact site, we would see them scamper between the bushes but never get close and bother us. While we were sitting in chairs, they almost chewed into an unopened plastic bottle of peanuts before we even noticed. I love this site and come back year after year but dang!

Tons of shade. There are two areas where you could put tents. We fit our 10x10 Kodiak in one of those just barely. We were on top of roots, but we avoided them when we laid down our sleeping pads. The other spot could accommodate a smaller tent. Campsites really do feel so private even though they’re close because of all the vegetation. The hosts were very friendly. Also, the water was shut off when we went, so there were portable toilets, but they were very clean and well stocked.
