What Guests Are Saying

Beartree offers a pleasant camping experience with good privacy and a clean bathhouse, complemented by warm showers and a friendly camp host. Although there is only one shower per gender, the campground's low occupancy made it manageable. However, some guests noted that the bathroom facilities include a pit toilet.

Beautiful campground. It’s very secluded make sure you bring firewood we could not find any and had to find deadwood around the campground. Loved the lake there were some great fishing spots.

Very hard almost impossible to connect with anyone for canceling and getting a refund due to death in the family. Still have no word of my refund request even was processed. Lost over $150.

Very nice isolated campground. Plenty of room between sites. No cell service. Need to spend some money and repair sewer system so all bathrooms work.

Visited in late October... Anita was an excellent and helpful hostess. The sites were mainly private and had a sense of seclusion due to rhododendron screening. It was peaceful and quiet. The dump station has been nonfunctional for a long time, and the facilities are getting a bit run down. Some restrooms are closed. The swimming area, which looked like it was once very nice, had been closed down since Covid and looked neglected and unusable and perhaps may never reopen (?). Since so many campers now use RVs or trailers, it is important to repair the dump stations. The National Forest (and most people) don't want anyone to discharge waste water on FS grounds, so updating the dump stations is important. Beautiful, slightly remote campground, but it needs some TLC. Hint: Grayson Highlands State Park--hike to see the wild ponies and gorgeous mountain balds.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Beartree. That said, the site we reserved ahead of time was supposedly a group site and is advertised as being able to hold 16 people. We had two pop-up campers and it was very tricky to get them both on that site. In fact, one was halfway off the side of the pad. It was very frustrating for us to find that we had paid for a double site when it ought to have only been considered a single site. If we come back, we will just go ahead and get two sites because that "double" was a joke! I have no idea why the campground people think it can hold 16! Even just with tents that would be next to impossible.

Love this Campground, close to the Creeper trail & Mt Rogers State Park.
nice trails right from the Campground.
Needs repairs, but ok if you have your own bathroom.
Hosts have always been very nice.

Had a nice time despite constant rain. The campgrounds are getting run down and are in need of some upkeep and repairs. The lake and pavilion are in a sad state of decline.

We loved our stay at Beartree! Our site felt beautifully private, and there was a tumbling stream at the back. We hope to return for another few days in the fall.
