This is a large, very busy campground with fairly small spaces, altho most have some screening with trees and shrubs. The rangers were all friendly and helpful. There were clean restroom buildings throughout each section of the campground. Each had a large sink outside for filling dishwashing tubs. No showers nearby but they are available for $5 at the camp store which is a fairly short walk from some sections, a drive from others. It’s a really nice store along with restrooms, showers, water bottle filling station. We had to buy head netting and firewood as soon as we got there because the gnats were terrible while setting up. The store closes at 5pm but everything else stays open. There are LOTS of dogs in the campground, at least one at nearly every space. We didn’t see any bears while there but everyone warned us about them and the need to put everything in your locked vehicle at night. Cell coverage is very, very iffy there. Just outside the campground, on Skyline Drive, is a small park store and restaurant.
You may be surprised that you have to pay $30 to enter Shenandoah Natl Park, in addition to the camping fees. But, the very nice and helpful rangers at the Skyline Drive entrance near Waynesboro let us know that for $20 we could get a senior pass which is good for a year. There’s also a military/veteran pass.

Great campground! We were at 005 and we secluded relatively speaking so we loved it.

The sites were much smaller than expected and could definitely not accommodate large tents or multiple tents. There were also large rocks on the ground where the tents would need to be set up, so it was not a pleasant experience to sleep here. A more accurate description of the sites would have allowed us to be better prepared to stay here

I’ve been camping at Loft Mountain for almost 30 years. It is my favorite place in the world. Some specifics on this latest trip. The Star Party was awesome! It is wonderful to see you reestablishing unique and interesting ranger programs. Over the years we have enjoyed many great experiences through this program. As always the camp sites were great. My only complaint is the showers. For $5.00, I got lukewarm water and a half inch of water in the dressing area. See you in the spring.

We found that sites are not necessarily “RV friendly” although the reservation system shows a site for RVs - nowhere near level, hard to maneuver around trees, narrow driveways. We made reservation on-line but found the site we originally had was unacceptable. Luckily, other sites were still available. The second site was better, but still required a lot of work to level. The campground is a very nice, popular location, well maintained. Ranger at registration was very helpful.

Well maintained campground. Convenient and well stocked camp store, including reasonably priced firewood. Clean and well maintained restroom facilities, and available showers. All personal, from rangers to store clerks were pleasant, helpful and efficient.
The only issue that could use some attention and would be a help to "tenters," is that since the general campsites do not have tent pads, it would be helpful to know when selecting/reserving a site whether it has a relatively smooth surface, or whether the surface has rock-outcroppings.
Otherwise a great campground.

I would have given Loft Mountain campground an excellent review. However, this time while we stayed at G191 the bathrooms were never cleaned during the four days we were there following the weekend. There was hair clogging the sinks and overall the bathroom was filthy.
