Reserved a site to be sure we had a spot. At the recommendation of the park ranger at the entrance, changed to a "first come, first served" site when we got there because it was more private. Camp hosts assisted us in making the switch. Great site, close to some fine hiking for us not-quite-in-shape hikers. Not a lot of wildlife, but did see deer, turkey, and one teenage bear. A good camp store a short drive away, though only daylight hours. The Skyline Drive was amazing. Got to meet an Appalachian Trail through hiker and heard some good stories. Thumbs up!

The attendants that did registration were kind and helpful. The sites are fairly clean and well separated as long as you choose the right ones. I had the chance to stay at a group site as well as a single tent site and both were excellent. The hiking trail nearby is very nice, but unfortunately, the waterfall was not flowing when we hiked it in August.

Needs more bear boxes, we didn’t have one on our site. Cell phone service is very weak, but better than Big Meadows, which has none. Bathrooms were decent, but no showers. Not bad, but not a good as Big Meadows or Loft Mountain.

This is a very nice facility with direct connections to several trails. A NPS store is only 2 mi away at Elkwallow Wayside, where you can buy firewood, snacks, and a few other items. The campground has bathrooms and is well maintained.
