My family and I are full-time RVers, and over the past 4+ years we’ve stayed at campgrounds ALL across the country. I don’t often leave negative reviews, but unfortunately our experience here warrants one.

We booked our stay at Davis Lakes & Campgrounds a year in advance. At the time of booking, I specifically requested a lakeview site and mentioned sites 26–32, with site 28 as our top choice. I was told that site 28 would be reserved for us, or that we would be placed in one of the sites we requested.

When we arrived, we were surprised and disappointed to learn that we had been assigned site F2 instead. When I asked about this, the staff mentioned there was a note stating to place us in site 28 if available, but it was no longer available—and no other lakeview sites were offered. This was extremely frustrating, especially since I had confirmed our reservation a week prior and nothing was mentioned about any changes. Had we known we wouldn’t have received one of the requested sites, we would have made other arrangements. Learning about it when we arrived, didn’t really give us an option to make other arrangements.

Unfortunately, site F2 ended up being one of the least desirable locations in the campground, backed up to long-term tenants and without the lake view we specifically booked for.

Another issue was the 6% credit card surcharge, which we were only informed about upon arrival. This fee was not in place when we booked and was never communicated to us afterward. For guests who reserve well in advance, there should be clear communication regarding new fees.

While the campground may be a good fit for long-term or local residents, it was not ideal for travelers like us. The park felt crowded, and the lake itself was not as appealing as expected.

Additional issues during our stay included:
1) Poor water quality that left a SCUMMY residue on your skin, shower, and dishes.
2) NO using personal washer/dryer units, along with high laundry costs. If they are going to impost that kind of restriction, having high charges of doing laundry at your facility is not reasonable in my mind!
3) General lack of maintenance and upkeep in certain areas, there were a couple of stormy days, a lot of branches fell throughout the park, during the time there, nothing was cleaned up. Maybe they did it after we left?
4) The park does accept packagers; however packages left outside overnight at the office, maybe not the best secure option if you are getting expensive items.

There was also an unsettling moment during our stay when we heard what sounded like gunshots, only to later learn that a staff member had shot and killed a snake. While we understand safety concerns, the situation was handled in a way that felt alarming for guests.

Overall, this experience fell FAR short of expectations, especially given the campground’s ratings. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this campground!!

Davis Lakes is a very nice rv site for Summer visiting. I am a contractor so I am here for many months and I find it to be affordable and well kept.

I wish they would let me pick zero stars, but I had to choose one.
I’ve traveled extensively in my RV and stayed at most campgrounds across Virginia, and unfortunately, Davis Lakes Campground stands out as the worst in terms of customer service. The website sets one expectation, but the reality when you arrive is completely different.

Rules seem to vary depending on who you are. Some guests are told they can’t stay longer than a month, yet there are RVs clearly parked there for a year or more. I personally know of two tenants who have lived there for over two years. Unless you’re friends with or related to the family, don’t expect fair or consistent treatment. Oh, and if you wanna have company while you’re camping, expect to pay a fee for that as well so if you have any family members that live in the area that would like to visit you make sure you charge them a cover charge because there’s gonna be a fee.

Also, if you’re not a fan of snakes, be warned—there are plenty around.

We've enjoyed our trips to Davis Lakes both times we've visited. The most recent was Easter weekend. They held an awesome Easter egg hunt for the kids following a super fun arts and crafts time. The kids all got a ton of eggs with goodies in each one, as well as their own Easter baskets. My daughter was so thrilled and talked about it for days. We will be planning our summer visits soon! We also love the lakes and the beautiful walk around the grounds.
