Isle of Wight Family Campground

I have been coming to this campground for 20 years, but my last two visits were by far the best as far as staff and amenities go. Back when it used to be called Big Bear, we used to have large yearly Fall Festival gatherings back in the primitive camp areas. Those are some of the best memories of my life. Sometimes a few resident campers would wonder back and join our fun. It was always nice having a bath house on premisies, even though there was little privacy.

It USED to be when we'd arrive for check-in, we were greeted in the office by a growling dog and the stench of cigarettes. Not anymore!
We came here in July '26 for a camping weekend with a few friends from the old festivals, and the office, store, and bathhouse have all been renovated and upgraded. Tatiana, Leigh Ann, and Caitlyn were so nice, patient, and helpful to me and my three children. The office in store sells firewood, ice, and a few essentials. During one of the store visits, there was even a local named Keith that insisted on buying us all ice cream, and most of the people we met at the pool were friendly with the kids and I. (Shout out to Carolyn and Max).

If you are camping back in the primitive area (tents), the staff will allow you to hire your own portable toilet to have at your site. Which is worth it when you and your friends are all partying around a big campfire. (This is something you would take care of yourself)

The newly renovated bathrooms are wonderful, have air conditioning, and there are three private walk-in showers with benches and a real locking door for safety.

The playground is nice and includes a small basket ball court and tetherball pole (...with a ball!!)
There aren't any peddle boats by the pond anymore, but you can fish in it off the shore or from a small deck, and even catch enough yield for dinner.

Back in the way-back is a large bonfire pit. I'm not sure how the camp uses it, but our old gatherings used to have some of the best drum & dance circles ever back there.

In all my years of coming here, this was my first time ever using the pool. It was kept clean and has its own bathroom right there in the pool area. The depth goes from 3 ft. Down to 8 ft.
(My only complaint would be the country-only music and a couple of smokers that insisted standing upwind, like they almost always do, right at the pool gate so that we all had to keep breathing their nasty cigarettes, which my son and I are allergic to. They could use some "No smoking" signs around the fence, IMO. To be fair about the music, the staff was very accepting to changing it up to more of a variety, but said they had some trouble with the system.)

Over all, my kids had a great weekend despite to intense heat we had, and are eager to come back! And we will come back! Definitely a big improvement to how it used to be ran. These people really care about this park and the people who camp here.

Clean spacious and well cared for. New renovations to the bath house are very nice. The staff is very friendly and helpful, it was hot and one of the ladies braided my hair to keep it off my neck in the heat. It was very much appreciated and I wish I had her name so I could directly express my gratitude. Pool, propane, water, firewood and even a small camp store.

We just spent 4 days here and had a great time. When it comes to the staff, it’s probably the most friendly campground we have ever dealt with, from the moment we called and set our reservation, up until we left. Everyone that works there was always so pleasant.

The grounds are extremely clean, the bathrooms and showers were immaculate and I am a very picking public bathroom person. Even the laundry room was very clean. You can tell that the owners and employees care about the campground. It definitely shows in the tone of their voice and the cleanliness of the campground.

When we called to get a reservation, there was only one site available. We assumed because it was Memorial Day weekend, but it seemed to have a lot of full time campers there. Many working folks, but they are kept their campsites clean. It was extremely quiet and not a lot of people outside.

The pond was such a bonus! We have a family that loves fishing and that was where I could find most of them all day. My kids also loved the basketball court and playground! We didn’t swim in the pool because the weather, but the man that was cleaning it was very nice and had the pool sparkling!

Highly recommend and can’t wait to visit again!

Stayed August 1-3 2025. The grounds were well maintained as were the sites. The bathroom and shower facilities were outstanding. Very clean, looks like they were recently renovated. I love how they had three private showers air conditioning and I am sure heat in the winter,
instead of one room with lots of showers. I arrived on Friday evening early and barely saw 15 people moving about. The whole campground was booked, except where the tents were. No one was out at night setting around campfire. Saturday night the same. I might have saw 18 people all day. Seems like everyone stays in camper. I did see one campfire Saturday night. The pool was clean and me and my husband had it to ourselves for over an hour that was nice. We left pool about 2 and there were only about 6 people, 4 were children. I was told from the two people that did speak to us it was a campground basically for working / traveling people or long term year around for families. It was a nice overall stay.

Hidden gem is what came to mind after my fiance places a last second search for a campground nearby since plans were canceled last min. Beautiful property, great touch by having a really great size pool with bathroom 10ft away with air-conditioning, plus dog park right next to half court basketball court. Bring your own ball. Renovated bathrooms air-conditioned plus personal showers with hot water. Check it out for your self. Staff was great. Definitely recommend.
