Swedish Lilac Campground Virginia

This place was an amazing experience! The hosts were lovely and the space was beautiful. The bathrooms were honestly the best campground bathrooms we have ever experienced. The river that runs in the back was amazing to soak our feet in after hiking Crab Tree Falls and Natural Bridge. We are definitely coming back to go to St. Marys Wilderness and Devils Marble Yards!

A very sweet older couple recently purchased this campground and renovated it and it’s WONDERFUL!
Pros: AMAZING WIFI
Beautiful river and creek right next to campsites
Electric and water and every site (even a standard outlet so you can charge things if you’re tent camping)
Very clean and nice bathroom facilities
Ping pong table!
2x Pavilions!
Cons (NONE! These facts just may be worth knowing ahead of time): They don’t accept anything other than online booking so if you’re trying to just show up, make sure to bring CASH!
As for location, it’s truly wonderful but there’s a train that passes nearby, however no honking ever disturbed us!

So far, our trip to Swedish Lilac Campground has veen so refreshing, rejuvenating & restful! We came same day I had called earlier in the day. As it would happen, my daughter& I would be their first campers of the year. I didn’t know they weren’t quite open yet, but a couple calls back and forth & they were absolutely happy to accommodate us coming with our 40’ 5th. Wheel that evening. Originally our ETA was 7pm according to gps. Then after my hiccup with getting turned around with the bridges in Norfolk area & then finding my way to the right bridge I knew we wouldn’t make the 7pm mark. So after our only gas stop needed I called with an updated eta (though I felt bad), and turned out that wirked out getter for the owners abyhow. So that certainly helped take some of the stress off of my chest. Seemed to work better for them anyways. The owners are very thorough with their instructions on getting here, want to make sure that their campers get in safely, and all squared away (whether it is light or dark), and it was much appreciated by us. For sure! If you dont get an answer when you call just leave a voicemail & you will get a call back shortly 😊
Not a lot of pics yet.. kind of had a down day today and rested up mostly…. But more pics tomorrow and will update my review after our stay here. Would highly recommend! Beautiful here & the sound of the water along the backside of the campground is beautiful 😍

Rustic campground in a little valley next to a river. Nothing fancy, but water/electric sites and solid WiFi. There is a dump station. Some sites are riverside. Owners are really nice and are continuing improvements. I see train tracks on the other side of the river, so there may be occasional trains, but we like trains so it's all good. Some steep downhills if you're following Google from southbound I-81, but it's a beautiful drive past cattle and sheep farms.

Swedish Lilac Campground is not a posh campground resort. But it is a quaint, peaceful, woodsy retreat along the South River which is more like a creek at this location. If you are an outdoorsy lover of nature, then you will love this campground, for RV’rs and tent sites. Nothing fancy but they do have water/electric hook-up, a dump station, a very nice bathhouse and WiFi! The hosts, Valerie and Fritz are super welcoming and enjoy visiting with their guests. They also offered free firewood but don’t mind if you bring your own. A short drive to Lexington, VA, we enjoyed the local brewery, and had the best pizza ever at Nick’s Italian Kitchen in Buena Vista. This was the perfect weekend retreat we needed and we’ll be back!
