About Stony Fork Campground

Stony Fork, tucked in a dense forest setting, is located at the foot of Big Walker Mountain beside the Big Walker Mountain Scenic Byway. The East Fork of Stony Fork Creek winds through the campground, providing a serene setting for trout fishing and water play for visitors at the welcoming campground. The 1 mile Stony Fork Nature Trail takes campers through groves of pine and hardwoods, and the campground loop road makes for a scenic walk, too.

Beautiful campsites in a nice rural setting. We saw some amazing stars at night. The weather was cool for this time of year, we even slept with the windows open one night.

Nice central location for hiking. We did some fantastic hiking within a 3 0 minute drive of the campsite.

The host, Roger, was fantastic and made us feel very welcome.

The restrooms and the sites in general were extremely clean and well stocked. We will be back!

Site 43. This campground can be described as quiet and secluded. The sites are spaced out and a lot of foliage between each. We even couldn't see our neighbors. The hosts were friendly. The bathhouse we were across the street from was a little old. Not much entertainment or activities for kids as you might see at other places.

Site 25. The campground itself is lovely & convenient. The facilities are very clean. It was quiet and our fellow campers were good neighbors and very friendly. Site 25 is the absolute pits, tho. It's probably half the size of the rest of the sites. The children had no room to play at all and the sites beside and behind it are very close, with minimal brush for privacy. We were not allowed to change sites unless we wanted to pay full price for the new one so we made do. The children played in the street and the creek and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We will definitely be back but more careful in choosing our site. Avoid #25 unless you don't want space or privacy.

Heavily wooded campground with a creek meandering through it. The sites closest to water might be prone to flooding. There are few level places inside the park to unhook a toad. Most of the sites do not appear to be level. Our site had electricity and water. The 30A pedestal was about 13 feet to the rear of the pad. All of this is common in older parks though. There are no stores nearby (that we found, anyway) so bring everything you might need. Wytheville is about a 20 minute drive away.
