About Big Creek (gifford Pinchot National Forest, Wa)

Situated in the vicinity of majestic Mount Rainier, Big Creek is a family campground nestled among Douglas firs, hemlock, alders and maples. The lush vegetation offers plenty of privacy between sites. The sites at Big Creek form a loop, with only a handful of sites sitting along the banks of Big Creek. Open from mid-May through late September, Big Creek provides an alternative to the campgrounds at Mount Rainier National Park, which can get very crowded during the summer.

Fantastic camp hosts and super convenient to Rainier. Site (16) had a cool little back area that would have been perfect for a second tent or more secluded stay. Seemed like most of the sites were very spacious and could accommodate a nice spread, but no loud parties or big groups when I was there.

A great place to stay on the way out (or in) from Mt. Rainier National Park. Our campsite backed up to Big Creek, a tributary (I believe) of the Nisqually River, which begins on Mt. Rainier's Nisqually Glacier. There's a trail that begins on the backend of the campground and travels into the forest.

The facilities were clean and the campsites were pleasant, with the sounds of the creek dimming the sound of traffic nearby.

I stayed in site 13 and it was great! The other camps are not too close and the creek, although not visible, is nearby an audible. It is a smaller site but it was perfect for my small tent. Water spigot is across the road so no one is stopping at this campsite to access water. Toilet was a short walk and was very clean.

We enjoyed a family reunion over a 2-night stay and introduced my 1-year old grandson to camping. The weather was beautiful and we had a fine time. Annette, the camp host, was very friendly and welcoming. We look forward to returning next summer.

This is a beautiful campground. campsite 20 is not a 5 star site.
Pros: Close to water Spicket and bathroom
Cons: Late afternoon sun, small site for a 6person tent, very lumpy ground, not a good spot for a hammock plus tent. Bugs were horrendous.
Also, we had some drama once we got to the tent site. The people who were there for two days before us decided to stay an extra day and then tell us that they had booked the site. The campus was not Available. But then, when I pulled out my toddler, the people were finally nice and decided to move to a different site. It was not a welcoming event. Will stay at here again for sure, but I had a different site. 24 seemed better and sites 10–11 are closer to the water.
