Peterson Prairie Campground is highly praised for its friendly hosts, Cathy and Joel, who maintain a clean and welcoming environment. Campers enjoy spacious, shaded sites and abundant opportunities for outdoor activities, including hiking and berry picking. While some sites may be smaller or closer together, the overall experience is positive, with clean facilities and a peaceful atmosphere, making it a great destination for families and nature lovers.

Camp was clean and hosts were wonderful. The fact that generators are in every campground these days is so disappointing

Overall, wonderful campground. The camp hosts were fantastic, and the grounds and bathrooms were kept extremely clean. We stayed in spot #11, which I would ONLY recommend if you are part of a group camping at group site #12. These two sites are way too close for comfort, especially when one is meant for a large group. We walked around the campground and found that most other sites were large and relatively private, so we were just unlucky with our selection. As others have stated, the bees can be pretty aggressive, but we had a canopy with a mesh screen, so we weren't bothered. Plenty of stuff to do in the area...ice caves, natural bridges, lakes for fishing, and just general exploring. We will be back!

Mount Adam's is a spectacular sight when it comes into an unobstructed view.
It is the 2nd tallest mountain in Washington and the third tallest in the Cascade Mountain Range.
This dormant sleeping giant is a stratovolcano, nestled between a few of its partners in crime, Mount Rainier to the north and Mount Hood in Oregon to the south, and sits just to the east of its more active relative, Mount Saint Helens, who's last major eruption happened in May of 1980.
This behemoth reaches a height of 12,281 ft and stands at around 9800 feet above the valley floor.
There are numerous glaciers on Mt Adams that feed many streams, rivers, and it's lush green forests.
Mount Adams is also known as Pahto or Klickitat by the Native Americans, and a 1/3 to 1/2 of its mass, on its eastern side, is designated Yakima Nation Territory.
Happy trails, and as always, leave no trace, leave it better than you found it, and enjoy 😉!

The journey to the summit of Mt. Adams (Pahto or Klickitat) is certainly a test of both physical strength and will. Starting at 7 p.m. on May 19 and ending at 4 p.m. on the 20th, this 21-hour adventure was full of challenges and surprises. Snow-covered roads forced me to stop at an elevation of 4,500 feet and hike 10 miles to an altitude of 7,900 feet. Early morning lightning storms and UFO activity added a touch of mystery to the journey, while a brief respite in the “lunch counter” area built strength for the rest of the climb. From Pikes Peak to the actual summit, every step of the way was accompanied by breathtaking views and the thrill of gliding. Though it was a deviation from the original route, the 32-mile hike was certainly an unforgettable experience and one that should be attempted by every hiker.

We loved staying at this lovely, quiet campground with our daughter and her family. The campsites were fairly nice -ours didn't have a great tent space, but we made it work. The other site accommodated the motor home well, but the table sloped downward at one end so the campstove wouldn't sit level. We discovered dense areas of huckleberry bushes behind both campsites, loaded with ripe berries, which we picked and put in pancakes. Yummy!. We appreciated the friendly camp host who came by and let us know campfires were allowed in the fire rings. The bathroom was clean and there was a water spigot nearby. Note: The garbage dumpsters have extremely heavy lids -it takes great effort by one person to lift and hold them up up while a second person is needed to throw the trash in.
This campground was a great base while we explored the Ice Cave and walked along the trails at the collapsed lava tube and natural bridges all along it. We also enjoyed visiting nearby Langfield Falls, a very impressive waterfall. But the main reason we chose to camp there was so that we would not have so far to drive to get to the trailhead for our hike to Bird Creek Meadows. We did this hike with our children numerous times when they were young but this is the first time we've been able to go back since the fire. I was worried that the hike wouldn't be very pretty because of all of the burnt trees, but in fact the trees were a beautiful silver. They added a unique beauty to the lush meadows which were carpeted with paintbrush, asters. lupine, monkey flower, fireweed, mariposa lily, rosy spirea and more. We were so happy to be hiking there again, and eating our lunches at Hellroaring Overlook. . The mountain didn't fully reveal itself while were there, but just as we reached Trout Lake, the mountain became visible, much to the awe of those who hadn't seen it before. It was a great trip!

Mt Adams is a great beginner mountain. It's relatively safe via south climb and crevasse free. Most climbers spent a night at the lunch counter, but it's definitely doable as a day hike. We left at 3:30 am, spent around 11 hr total to reach the summit and get back to the car.
