What Guests Are Saying
Windy Point Campground offers a pleasant experience with spacious campsites, beautiful river views, and clean facilities. Many visitors enjoyed the warm, swimmable river and the proximity to hiking trails. However, some noted noise from the nearby highway and a few logistical issues, such as reservation misunderstandings and limited shade in certain areas. Overall, the campground's cleanliness and scenic surroundings make it a favorable choice for campers.

The campsites are nice, but small if you are on the inside of the loop. The pit toilet was the cleanest I’ve ever seen, but it didn’t have enough TP for a busy holiday weekend. The river is beautiful & (mostly) drowns out the noise from HWY 12. Lots of easy hikes nearby- great birding! We will definitely be back!

We planned to spend 3 nights at Windy Point, which we love. This would have been a 5-star rating but the recreation.gov website did not advise that Windy Point was closing the day after our first night. It just said a reservation could not be made. We know the campground is open year-round, so we assumed it was switching to FCFS. After we got there and found out we couldn't stay for 3 nights (by other campers and a sign posted on the notice board), we learned through an on-line search (after we left) that there was a military recon happening in the area, which is why Windy Point was closing. We ended up driving several hours to get to another favorite campground. Would have been nice to know that Windy Point was closing (and why). We would have skipped Windy Point and saved ourselves several hours of driving (not to mention the gas).

When we arrived to our campsite we quickly realized that someone else was camped in our spot. We then moved to a different spot that did not have a "reserved" marker. When the camp host arrived the next day she apologized and said we could request a refund or move to the original spot since is was then vacant. We chose to stay put since we didn't want to pack up and reset up our 30' trailer.

The sites along the river are very nice. Clean restrooms. Some highway noise and it was windy! We only stayed one night to breakup a long drive.

Close to Yakima yet far enough away to cool down and enjoy the forest and river. The campground was well kept and quiet. Sites were nice.

Very quiet and next to the river. some road noise at night but the river pretty much drowns that out.

Great stay! My wife and I spent the night there. We had a great time, the campground was clean, our spot was shaded next to the river. Having the sound of the river made for a relaxing night. The campground is aptly named, there was 15 mph winds that night. While we didn't have an problem in our tent, be prepared for possible winds.
