Ohanapecosh Campground

Peaceful and beautiful. Staff was helpful and nice. Waterfall hike right out of camp was gorgeous!

I love Ohanapocesh camping. It’s very family friendly and peaceful.

Our second year camping here and we love all that it offers

Site C10 is large but the table and fire pit are incredibly close to the neighboring site. The trail to the amazing swim hole in the river is right next to this site so expect hundreds of people walking by on a busy Saturday. Maneuvering my small trailer was slightly impaired by how close the garbage station is to the driveway. Silver falls is worth the walk- we passed about about 50 other folks on the trail. There are flush toilets here. My daughter liked the ranger station there are a lot of stuffed creatures. I tried to get a next day permit for Sunset and Paradise by using the WiFi at the station at the 7 pm release but it wouldn’t work. Overall a good experience but we probably won’t come back.

We loved this campground! The layout, access to trails, park store, and proximity to the river all made this a great experience. While the restrooms could be updated, they were always clean. After camping in close to a dozen national parks, Ohanapecosh is one of our favorites.

We spent 2 days tent camping during one of western Washington's summer "heat domes". While being very rustic it is a beautiful place , and restful. Night was clear and star filled. The Ohanapecosh river flows through the campground and provided a cool tranquil place to sit during the heat of the day. The water is too cold for me, so just dipping my foot in was sufficient, but younger, more adventurous people would quickly dunk their full bodies.

There are numerous hike trail heads from the campground, giving a range of difficulties from a quick 20 minute walk to the hot spring to much longer hikes. Silver falls is about 1.5 hour walk with great views of the falls and towering trees. Great place.

I was extremely disappointed to see that ALL of loop B has been closed to the tax paying public. It is now reserved for members of the Cowlitz tribe for ceremonies according to the rangers.

I was further extremely disappointed to see several campsites in F loop closed to the public and held for National Park Service administration only. The site I had last year and was canceled out of two days before my trip because of hazardous tree was being used by, a friend of a park service (?) while the hazardous tree remains!

And of course, loop G remains closed for third year with only one tree down in one camp site.

Several thief’s have taken place here also with folks loosing generators, prophane tanks, camp stoves and etc.

Camp sites are poorly designed and maintained, length is substandard for size of RV”s and unleveled. Other then that
Campgrounds were clean and for the most part quiet

H016 was a fantastic site in a truly wonderful campground. It was big and spacious. Short walk to the bathrooms. Can see all of your neighbors through the trees but the big woods and space between H016 and other sites didn't make it feel "crowded" or invasive of privacy. We had 2 small tents, a hammock and still had a TON of space to run around and for the kids to play within our site. Bathrooms were dated but clean and stocked. Park Rangers made frequent rounds. There is a dish washing sink in a closet at the bathroom building (its a tiny little closet and what looks like a large rectangular "toilet" as my kids called it, but it served its purpose and it was really appreciated to have this sink area since the previous campgrounds we stayed at did not have anything at all).

Lots to do near the campground. Saw people swimming down in the Ohanapecosh River below site C008 and also by the day use area in loop C. Silver Falls Loop Trail (2.7 miles/90 minutes) can be started and finished at loop B and an easy Hot Springs Nature Trail can be walked in about 20 minutes starting behind the visitor center and ending in Loop B.

No cell phone service in the campground (not until we got out near Packwood).
No showers or laundry in the campground but can drive into Packwood RV campground for $5 showers, $5 laundry and $15 dump (no dumping on weekends) or drive 5 miles south of town to Cascade Peaks RV Park for $2 laundry, $3 showers, $8 dump station.
Can drive into Packwood for overpriced groceries and gas, as is usually the case in tourist towns (can't complain too much since having a grocery store 15 minutes away was appreciated).

Overall cannot recommend this campground enough. LOVED IT. And will be back again soon.

The campground was very nice and shady with a stream next to our campsite. The site was a
Little uneven but not too bad. Since the campground is on the eastern side of the park, there is lesser traffic compared to the more popular west entrances.
