Tucannon Guard Station

Cabin was v. comfortable and much less rustic than our usual cabin stays.

Great spot at the foothills of the Blue Mtns with Tucannon River right across the road. Popular and crowded area in summer, deserted in winter. Great spot for a family reunion? Several campsites surround the cabin. The cabin itself was very comfortable for USFS standards. Indoor plumbing, hot water, gas heat, comfy full bed, full-sized fridge with freezer, covered porch, full suite of pots, pans, utensils, etc. Our one complaint is only the two small back burners work on the stove top but that didn't slow us down much.

The Tucannon Guard Station is an old Forest Service Ranger's cabin that sits in the Tucannon River Valley. There is excellent (seasonal) fishing in the River and lots of feral fruit nearby to pick in the late summer and early fall. Many beautiful hikes are nearby and they are detailed on maps and brochures inside . The cabin itself is dated, but very functional and comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils, The furniture is comfortable and board games are available for those so inclined. It is a lovely publicly owned get away, reasonably priced for a family of four to get away for a few days.
