There was no camp host so no reservations where posted. Fortunately, there was no conflicts. The stock water was on, but the hoses that are normally available where not out. We did see a ranger driving through twice which was great. A fantastic experience overall. Hopefully, the camp host and stock water situation will be smoother for everyone next year. Thank you to the staff still working and keeping the doors open.

The central bathroom was full. It’s the second week of July. So full it’s splashed your backside when having a morning uh-hem! Then to top it off, the hoses were gone. The water sprockets were NOT on. If you wanted water, you had to hand pump it and then haul it over to your horse paddock. It was a workout. No camp host this season. We are under a new contract that isn’t hands on and let non-horse people camp here again. This is cyclic folks. I pray they get a grip on this before summers end. I was scheduled to come back in September for a week. I’m keeping an eye on other posts on whether to cancle or not.

I am disappointed and sadden to see the condition of the Cayuse Horse camp. I have been utilizing this camp for many years and have always appreciated the ease of making the reservation through Recreation.gov, but my most resent visit was shocking to see how far down the camp has gone since the loss of Ken as the camp host. The description of the camp is far from accurate under the new "management" there was no stock water provided. Using the pump to get stock water is not a viable source for horses. The pump is located down hill from the corrals approximately 75 to 100 yards and took two of us (senior citizens) to man handle the pump to get any water out of the pump. To carry enough water to maintain horses back up the hill was brutal to say the least. The camp is designated as stock camping only, however there were campers with reservations without any stock during our week long stay. Five separate individuals took up camp sites that were for horse or stock trailers. No host came to check/clean the camp bathrooms or fill toilet paper or verify payment of those who just pulled into a camp site. Prior host, Ken, had completed PVC pipe and spigots all the way around the corrals however no one opened the valve up behind the camp to provide gravity flow fresh water from the reservoir which is where fresh clean water has always been provided from. Horse Campers who arrived were not prepared for the lack of water. Corrals are in disrepair, we had to improvise with duct tape to fix the panels that were separated from the support posts. All of the signs stating stock camping only have been removed so campers who do not have livestock are unaware. As an equestrian I have very few options when it comes to camping with my horse as I am in my senior years. I can not haul heavy buckets by hand. Having only 14 sites designated for horses is a blessing, please help make sure this camp remains livestock use only. NOTE: Corrals now have water available at the pens.

Have been going to Cayuse Horse Camp for a few years and it has went downhill. There was no water at pens and had to haul from pump which was a ways away. Not as easy being a senior. The pens need fixing. Had to use duct tape to hold some railings up as they kept coming out of post. Bathrooms were not cleaned or TP restocked in the 7 days we were there. Non horse people were able to camp there and most don't understand being around horses. There is now water to pens but it needs to be maintained.

No horse water, no camp host, no wheel Barrows or manure forks. Sites taken over by non horse campers that think my horses are there for their petting pleasure. Stinging nettles in campsites and horse pens. Partying teenagers encroached into site 11 late into the night set several fires outside of legal fire rings left garbage behind ncluding empty alcohol bottles . The hand pump was not fully functioning like something had been jammed into the opening could not achieve full flow.

Excellent camp ground with pens for horses. The pens are not in sight of most camp spots - FYI. Otherwise nice host, and all that is needed for lovely cramping! Water right by pens!

Water is available in this location via a handpump and/or water spigot. Please DO NOT attach your RV hoses to the water systems we provide. These are made available to you to fill your water jugs/buckets and take back to your site to use. If you need to fill your RV water tanks, please fill your tank before you come to the campground. Thank you! There is no separate water system to fill the troughs for the horses. Campers must use bucket to fill the troughs from the handpump. |
