Great horse camp well cared for and friendly host. Really a great place to relax and ride.
Be prepared for dry camping and horses should be in decent shape. Can be rocks and elevation.

This was our first time at this great horse camp. We met some amazing people. The camp host was super helpful and super generous. We will definitely be going back.

This place was so nice and relaxing for our group trip. The horses were safe, getting water was easy. Many trails to choose from.

Great place to horse camp. Nice sites, choices of sun or shade. Corrals are great, strong, safe and huge. They are away from the sites but watched over by the host.
Camp host was wonderful, kind and helpful. Trails are rocky in many areas but the views were outstanding.

Ken was a great camp host! Met us immediately and answered all questions with enthusiasm! Rode Cooper Lake Trail and Waptus trail to Waptus Lake (long ride but worth it). Both beautiful rides and scenery. Saw a black bear on Waptus trail. Went during week days so hiker and other horse traffic was minimal. One of the wheelbarrow tires did fall off while transporting manure to dump bin but we all got a laugh out of it! Thank you!

Camp host does an exceptional job taking care of the facilities and upkeep as required. Restrooms are some of the cleanest I've seen at a federal campground. The corrals and horse area is well maintained and safe for our animals. They also are quick to answer questions and very helpful. Can't ask for more.

I booked by calling the phone # for recreation.gov. We had lousy internet where we were at the time. I was looking for a camp site for a Friday and Saturday night in the Salmon La Sac region. The phone call took a while, but eventually, afeter she checked all the sites in the area, the lady told us there were spots @ Cayuse, which we booked for 2 nights, which we paid for after we were transferred to a second lady. She did say it was a horse camp. But we have horses at home, so that was ok, we like horses (well, my wife does, anyway). The call took about 30 minutes, but we had a spot, we thought.......
When we arrived the camp host told us we couldn't stay there, because this was a horse camp, and we had to bring horses. He was not very understanding. Given that we had booked and paid for a site, it was going to sit empty for the weekend. He didn't care.
So we had made a donation, and moved on. Luckily we found a spot by the river.
Frustrating.

Camped here over fourth of July weekend to escape fireworks. VERY quiet so it was perfect! Great horse camping (and people camping). Corrals are nice and big, but don't really have any shade except for a couple. Easy access to water and close by to the camp spots. Very "natural" setting camp spots that are large and located in a close in area but you don't feel like you're right on top of your neighbor. Vault toilet restroom. Very nice camp host and beautiful area for trail riding. But, if you are looking for casual trail riding, there isn't much of that. Most of the trails are uphill, very rocky and difficult. There is a reason this campground was a base camp for mules!
