The Peterson Cabin is located on the Mt. Adams Ranger District, is powered by propane, and wood heat and can sleep six people. The cabin was salvaged from demolition in 2014 and moved into place of a cabin that was razed by fire in 2012. The cabin has been meticulously restored and is open year round. Between December 1st and April 1st the road to the cabin is closed. Parking at Atkisson Sno-Park is required between these dates and a Washington State Sno-Park Pass is required. Ski, snowshoe or snowmobilers can access the cabin from Atkisson Sno-Park.

Peterson Prairie Cabin is praised for its spaciousness, comfort, and historical charm in a beautiful setting, making it an affordable and enjoyable retreat. Guests appreciate the cleanliness, well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable beds, with many returning multiple times. Minor suggestions for improvement include repairing screens for fresh air and better snow preparation.
We have been fortuntate to stay here twice in the last five years, and both times were amazing. We love everything about this place, including the location, serenity, cleanliness of the cabin, and most of all, the fireplace. My only suggestions, and this is being very picky, would be to repair the screens so we can have the fresh air without any bugs coming in, and have a small whellbarrow in the wood shed to help old folks carry wood to the house. Evenso, this place is our absolute favoite adventure spot.

Great cabin, fully stocked with all the dishes and utensils you could need. Went end of May and had water. Beds are very comfortable, like sleeping in your own bed.
This was a wonderful surprise! It was so roomy, comfortable, well equipped, and full of very interesting history -- in a beautiful setting. We hope to return often! We were so grateful for the affordable price. (We usually cannot stay in cabins because of the expense, so this was definitely worth the responsibility of cleaning it before leaving.)
It is a lovely place to stay. I would note that there are two double beds, and two twin beds. I would also note that there is no electricity, but the outdoor solar lights are great!
Always love this cabin and the areas around it. Well stocked kitchen and closet of games and books. Cant recommend enough to bring more light - FAR more light - than you think you'll need as the space is really, really dark. No propane lights in dining area for eating, working puzzles or playing games. No lights in living room for reading or any of the same. The very few propane lights are just enough to make your way around. Crank up the old Coleman propane lantern.
While no running water in the cabin, there is good spigot water available just 50 yards away at the intersection before the cabin driveway (when weather decent) and in the campground so you dont have to go far to refill (assuming it's still working during operational season). The spigot right there in the cabin driveway works during summer season but not full force.
