We recently spent 6 nights at Bulltown. We had a good time, but was disappointed when we pulled in and found out that only loops D & E were open for the off-season. As it was a good weather weekend, there were only a handful of spots left. We settled for a spot for us that was not ideal for us, close to the next spot, unlevel, and directly behind the bath house. After the crowd moved out on Sunday, we moved to a much better spot. I believe that if ALL 4 loops along the lake, C, D, E, and F, were to stay open after Labor Day, you would not have such a difficult time finding a spot since it is first come - first served. We love staying in C Loop. We did find out that C was open for overflow spots (if needed) and then will close back down on Monday.
The office is only open for (2) hours each day during the off season. If you come to the campground outside of these hours, you have to come back to the office the next day and pay for the night before, and then for however long you want to stay. A few years ago, we were able to pay when we arrived through the self-pay envelopes (with cash). This was much more convenient than making another trip to the office, wait in line to pay (there were 5 people ahead of me, waiting in the rain) and then go back to camp.
The laundromat change machine and softener/dryer sheet vending machines were also out of service. I wanted to do a load of laundry since we stayed for a week, but didn't have enough change to run the washer and dryer. The office doesn't accept cash anymore, so I figured it was a waste of time to ask.
The (1) dumpster for the campground was overflowing when we checked in on Friday, and definitely was on Sunday after everyone checked out from the weekend. This attracted cats who tore into bags and made an even bigger mess.
Bulltown is a beautiful and enjoyable place to camp, but I feel like management could be more on top of things, even though it was during the off-season. Sadly, I don't see pride anymore.

We have camped @ Bulltown since 2005. At first we went early spring & fall, avoiding summer busy times as we prefer quieter times. We now camp only in fall; we enjoy the pleasant atmosphere & feel close to nature. As expected, we & several friends have our favorite campsites. We normally stay mid-Sept to mid-Nov & w/the purchase of a cell phone booster we are able to get cell service. This year we were VERY dismayed to find that our favorite loop was closed & we were forced to move to another no pet loop which has VERY short lake front sites (some campers fill the site). Sites in this loop are so tight that we feel cramped like sardines; we are unable to get cell service with the booster & it is 12 miles to go for a good signal; there is no view of our boat from the camper; we occasionally smelled the sewage plant; & at times we heard a dog constantly barking in the next loop. Weekends were the most crowded with traffic & noise; we even had our satellite dish turned over from kids running after dark. When F loop closed Labor Day, campers were told they had to move to another loop so some who planned to stay longer to avoid holiday traffic went home rather than move. I heard quite a lot of folks say they are unhappy with these changes, which also includes closing C loop early. One weekend it was so crowded that C loop opened due to overcrowding and I saw 2 people leave our loop & move to C to nicer spots. One camper even said that after 30 years they would never return again. Comments were made that they felt the changes don't reflect any $ savings as empty sites use no water or electric & volunteers do most of the work. I have previously told numerous people how nice & pleasant BT is in the off season but I don't feel like I can tell folks that anymore. We no longer get the quiet experience we enjoy so much, it is much like the summer season. The staff & volunteers have always been very nice and helpful so I have no complaints at all with them.

We met up with friends for our visit. The campground is spotless, the host is great and the scenery is awesome. Pleanty of deer and birds to photograph and an occasional raccoon if you look hard enough. We stayed in loop D and did not feel crowded as we had plenty of room between our units to hold group breakfast or potlucks. Highly recommended...

Had a little run in with a maintenance man, we had low water pressure and he was very very rude to us over the situation

This is our 2nd visit to Bulltown. Our stay was coordinated with a camping group in Loop D. The setting is wonderful. Sites are very nice, some are W&E, ours was just E.There were water faucets close.Firewood available too$ Bath houses and playgrounds in each loop. The area is good for hiking, biking, fishing and boating. A small camp store is close, though a town for other shopping is about a 10-15mi drive. A historical museum is on site near check in, the weekend we visited there was a Civil War festival. This is a 1st come so no reservation. They only do Credit & Debit Cards, no cash or check. An iron ranger is available for late check ins. One draw back is cell coverage. NOT GOOD. The park does offer coverage for a fee, though a few campers said it was not the best. A fellow camper had a star link which gave us great coverage. This park and area is worth a visit.
