The water pump at the entrance of the park was broken. Quiet campground with a lot of privacy.

We visited Bear Lake for the first time for the 4th of July weekend. It was hot, and we appreciated the great sandy beach, cool water and shade. One of the best parts was the clear, cold drinking water from the pump! We stayed hydrated on a very hot weekend without much effort. The bugs were pretty horrific, but that is to be expected on a hot weekend without much breeze. We brought a kayak and enjoyed just paddling and also fishing. Using spinners, we caught some small northern and large mouth bass. We were hopeful to find firewood at the campground, but ran into town to get some instead. The best deal we found was heading into Laona (stopping at Family Dollar for more bug spray!) and then heading about a mile south on Hwy 32 from the store. On the right side of the road, there is a logging business that had great firewood cut and organized for sale - we grabbed the $20 bundle which was plenty for the weekend. You could also get a $30 or $40 bundle. Self pay at the wood pile. We enjoyed our stay and would camp here again!

Great campsite, well kept. I just wish that reservations for the campground were able to be made earlier.

The lake was very nice, peaceful, and we had a great time. The only problem was that for the last two days of our stay the county decided to rip up the road in front of the entrance and we had to take a very poorly marked dirt road back out to the main road. I trip that normally takes 10 minutes ended up taking about 40 minutes. It was very poorly planned since our stay encompassed the holiday weekend and other campers were equally angry and upset over the detour.
