What Guests Are Saying
Grant River Campground offers spacious, well-maintained sites with stunning views of the Mississippi River and beautiful sunsets. Visitors appreciate the cleanliness of the facilities and the friendly atmosphere, as well as the proximity to charming towns like Potosi. However, the frequent train traffic nearby can be disruptive for some campers, especially at night.

Nice campground, right along the river. Sites are a bit close together but staggered, which helped. There’s train tracks on one edge of the campground, which could cause some annoyance, but they went quickly.

This was our 3rd straight year staying at Grant River to close out the season. It’s nice they stay open a week longer than some other campgrounds. On that last day the checkout time is moved to 4pm as everyone needs to use the dump station. We don’t find the trains an issue but they are there, you get used to them. Nice level concrete pads and nicely kept. Our site had a faulty 50A breaker. The attendant responded to the problem promptly but unable to rectify it but 30A was sufficient for our needs. Bring your own water but there are hydrants scattered about and some are within hose distance to refill your tanks if necessary. No issues with maneuvering our 34’ Class A and toad. Sites are spacious( some better than others) with our site #39 being very nice, just closer to the train tracks. The river is always beautiful. We’ll be back!!

The hourly (and sometimes many per hour) trains were reduced, most likely due to a slowed economy. This was nice. But troubling in the sense that less goods are moving via rail. I noticed the same thing with the tugs . Much less river traffic than in the past. Was also bummed that a beautiful site right by the river and furthest from the railway tracks, had nobody on it for the whole weekend! Yet Was “reserved” by someone who never showed! I thought they were put back in the system if folks are a no show!

My families' second time camping here and it was great! The campsite is well maintained and super family-friendly environment. They even have a freelibrary to pick or donate a good book! Definetly will be coming back more often.

Crowded sites but lovely camping area. We enjoyed the river, the walking, exploring the region from here.
Due to the design being similar to a zipper the ladder of the unit in the other row backed up to our eating area window. They had poop tanks strapped onto their ladder and we have a slide on the side. We had to have a spotted when we opened our slide. Also, while there are leash ‘rules’ most dogs were on long tie outs. This means they were at our rv, under our rv, and a bit of a concern.
There are sources for water through out the campground, not at each site, but easy to fill your tanks, jugs, etc.
There are a lot of trains. We don’t mind at all, we take Amtrak, so the noise was no issue. The trains are close so the rv vibrates as they thunder past.
The attendant was very nice.

Very pretty and peaceful site on the river (#28) - The park is very clean and each site very well laid out. Check in was easy. We will return!

We enjoy viewing the Mississippi River from our campsite.
There are many good places to eat in Potosi and close by. Platteville is a short drive and has the best Mexican restaurant in the tri-state area, Los Amigos on Main St. It now has a small craft brewery owned by a long time business owner.
You are fortunate to have amazing park attendants! Frank and Sandy are an asset to Grant River Recreation. We can't imagine camping there without their attention to detail. They are helpful, personable and do a great job. You don't want to lose their dedication to the campground.
Jimmy, the camp host, is the perfect individual for that position. He is always on the move, doing things to improve the campground. He's hard working and personable. Jimmy attends to issues that can cause harm to campers and children. One example is the swarms of ground bees he eradicated. Don't let him leave the position!
Thank you for always getting Grant River Recreation ready for Spring camping! Especially after the flooding.

It's a nice place to spend time at. Yes there are trains the go by a lot but it's fine, it's not something you get to watch in the city.
The staff was very friendly.
