What Guests Are Saying
Grant River Campground offers spacious, well-maintained sites with stunning views of the Mississippi River and beautiful sunsets. Visitors appreciate the cleanliness of the facilities and the friendly atmosphere, as well as the proximity to charming towns like Potosi. However, the frequent train traffic nearby can be disruptive for some campers, especially at night.

This was our 2nd time in 2019 because we were impressed with campground in 6/29 - 8/3/19,
Site 61, Excellent. On 9/30 - 10/5/19, Site 53, Excellent the weather was Bad, 6" rain, flood warning.
Our site was dry, some others had water standing that the Camp Host was pumping out. We left 2 days early because 90% rain was predicated for rest of week.
The Camp Host & Office gal were super nice & camp grounds excellent condition, concrete pads on sites, very clean. We will come back. Rail road tracks lots of trains, right on Mississippi.
We stayed in 34' 5th Wheel.

As always we had a very peaceful experience at Grant River campground. Can’t even remember how many times we’ve stayed there and always the same wonderful experience. Lots of birds including eagles flying right over the camper, pelicans both brown (rare) and white (frequent). Wanted to try fishing but we haven’t a boat.
In terms of things to do, there’s Dubuque, Iowa 20-30 minutes away. There, you can 2 casinos, an excursion boat on the Mississippi river, a fantastic, highly recommended Upper Mississippi River Museum, as well as restaurants, big box stores and movie theaters.
In the other direction, on the Main Street in Potosi, WI, is an excellent restaurant/microbrewery. Good food and always fun to sample some of the local brews. I still like Steamboat Shandy but there are also ligh t and dark beers as well and of course you can sample before you order or purchase. Grant River is my happy place I would live in are near the campground if I were not currently tied to Milwaukee.

Your web site to reserve a site needs help. To reserve a sought after site ahead of time, you have to reserve a day @ a time. Open up sites at least for the week. And this waiting till 9:00am is stupid! CAMPERS ARE VERY COMPETITIVE!

I love it there. The trains going by can be loud, but that is what makes it cool, especially if you are camping with kids. The river view is beautiful and the sites are amazing.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to camp due to high cold winds, but the grounds we so clean and well kept and the staff was so nice and helpful. We plan to try camping there again soon and hopefully the weather cooperates this time!

Grant River Recreation Area offers a well-shaded campground with most of the sites offering a view of the mighty Mississippi. The original reservation we had was the end of May into June, but unfortunately the river was flooding, so we moved our reservation to about a month later. By that time, the clean-up crew had done an excellent job getting the campground cleaned up and back in business. In fact everything about this campground is well maintained, including the restrooms/showers. I especially appreciate the ceiling fans in the restrooms which keep them drier and cleaner during the humid days of summer. Nearby the campground is the little town of Potosi, home of the Potosi Brewery and Museum. A wonderful place to relax (outside on the patio if the weather's good, or indoors, otherwise), have a beer(s) with a very good lunch and supper menu, and on Sundays during the summer and early fall, they offer breakfast. Across the street from the brewery is a wine shop, a smaller bar (very cute, as well) and a large event center which is often booked for weddings, parties, or area occasions. The area surrounding Potosi consists of lovely, wooded hills, deep valleys, and is part of the Great River Road Scenic Byway. There's so many interesting sights nearby that I can't list them all, but I recommend the trip to everyone who enjoys beautiful scenery with lots of opportunities to stop often for a closer look.
