What Guests Are Saying
Gros Ventre Campground is a beautiful and well-maintained location with friendly staff, clean restrooms, and easy access to the nearby river and wildlife, making it ideal for campers. Many visitors appreciate the campground's peaceful atmosphere, spacious sites, and convenient check-in process. While some sites may have rocky terrain and the lack of showers is noted, the overall experience is positive, with many recommending it as a great base for exploring the Grand Tetons.

Clean and big enough camp sites without being too close to others.

For tent campers, staying at GV can be a challenge. Like in many other CGs, sites are designed for RVs. There may or may not be room for a tent--even in loop G, finding a level spot for a tent is not always easy. The bathrooms are located so that, unless you cross over other sites, you walk about a quarter of a mile when you follow the road. That said, despite the large number of people, the CG was quiet as even loud groups quieted down at a reasonable hour. All personnel were accommodating, helpful, and very patient--it can't be easy to deal with so many people on a daily basis. I have been coming out there for over 40 years, and of course, things have changed, not all for the better. It is now expensive to stay anywhere in the parks. For a single traveler, it's almost not affordable. The fact that any changes to reservations can be made only on recreation.gov can be very frustrating. Often there is no signal to get online! But recreation.gov is not the point of this evaluation. Gros Ventre is to me still the best alternative to Jenny Lake, where I have stayed for over 35 years, until it became impossible to reserve sites. It has its own beauty. I will never forget the night I spent with a moose right outside
my tent!

Great Campground! We had three different sites and all three gave us private space. Just down the road, we stopped for animal view and saw moose and a beaver. Way better than nightly TV. Wish they had shower and icing on the cake would be a laundry facility.

The ground is rocky and driving in tent stakes is almost impossible however there are plenty of lager stones to tie down to when tent camping make sure you know your knots.

There is significant variation between sites even within the same section/loop and not every site can accommodate larger tents or hammocks.
