About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

Well basically you’re going to be in close quarters to your fellow campers. Some of the spaces are very small. The folks working there were great. Easy check in. Nearby Atherton Lake 10 minutes away was a better place to camp, with a view. Just depends on what you’re expecting for a camping experience.

The campground hosts are the greatest. We love camping here. It does get a little crowded during the summer, but in the off season it is nice. I wish the park would put a bicycle lane from Gros Venture Campground to the bicycle lane along the Highway 191. It would cut down on traffic.

Gros Ventre is always a good camp. It is a shame that the NPS has to restrict dogs to such a great extent.

Nice spot but the bathrooms don't justify the price charged. Also lacking for people who have disabilities in ADA accessible restrooms and no showers at $68 per night

Very pretty spot. Nice bathrooms. Lots of space for our camper. And all the moose in the area were a nice touch. ;)

The maximum stay permitted at Gros Ventre Campground is 14 nights, and the maximum cumulative stay between all park campgrounds is 30 nights.

Guest check-in begins at noon. Check-out is 11 AM.

Generators are only permitted in loops A, B, C and along the East Corridor (EC).

We have one potable (drinking) water station and two rv dump stations across from the office cabin as you enter the campground.

Maximum guests allowed per site (not including group sites) is six. Tent sites allow for up to two tents and two vehicles. Not all sites are able to accomodate two tents. Guests will need to review site specific information for maximum number of tents permitted in individual sites. RV sites allow for one RV (tow included) only. (For reference, 2 motorcycles = 1 vehicle)

Quiet hours are 10pm - 8am. Generators cannot be used during these hours.
