Loved it. The only drawbacks: looky-loo people driving way too fast into the campground at daybreak, and throughout the day into the day use area to turn around. Most annoying for sites 1 and 2. Would be great to have signage to discourage day use entry to 9-6 or so. For the love, don't feed the ground squirrels! It's bad for them and all food left around attracts bears, and people are camping here! I'd still reserve site 2 again though. Being up on the hill a bit gave us more breezes, and a good view of the creek and hillsides. It felt more private also as it was far from other sites.
There were mosquitoes. Manageable...more than the day use people.
Nice camp hosts.
So many flowers this year, beautiful creek view from site 2. Not level but not horrible. Saw a badger right at camp. Saw a cinnamon colored black bear across the creek from camp and more on the creek path. Saw a snake, sand hill cranes, bison, and loads of butterflies on the Slough Creek trail. Buggy at the trailhead and the duration of the uphill out of the drainage. Would be great to have a trail from camp to the trailhead in order to avoid cars but the road wasn't too bad to walk.
It was unclear where the creek fords were to head to the Soldier Trail. The creek was running fairly high. At the Slough Creek intersection we looked a bit for the other ford but it was muddy and the water was high and with storms expected we made the ranger cabin our turnaround point instead. Beautiful hike. So glad to have been able to grab these spots. Definitely bring extra water, portable solar panels would be good, too. There IS some cell service at camp, T-Mobile (better, enough for phone calls) and Verizon (slow at camp, better up on the trail and the road).

Excellent location, excellently maintained near Lamar Valley for wildlife viewing. Really hard to get a site and currently no potable water due to 2022 floods
