Mammoth Campground (Yellowstone)

I was not happy with 2 items:
1. At the campground office, I inquired about extending my stay and was bluntly told to contact Reservations.gov. The next day, I went to the campground office to ask why a motor home was camping in the amphitheater parking area and I observed the man in line in front of me got help with his request to extend his stay. The ranger at the campground office took him inside and had him wait while he got on the phone and was able to secure him a cancellation. Why wasn't I given the same assistance the day before? This foes not seem fair and equitable for everyone!!
2. The campground allowed a motor home with a very loud generator, well above the Park's decibel limit, to move into the amphitheater parking area to camp for 5 days because his illegal sound level generator was disturbing many campers. This was not a designated campsite and is against Park laws!!
3. I and two friends I traveled with had to move 2 or 3 times during a short stay at this campground just to get reservations, which is VERY inconvenient when you have to hitch up, move and re-level a camping trailer! I noticed many campsites were tagged with a 14 fay reservation and were vacant for all of my 7 day stay! What gives with that?? After 48 hours, the vacancies should have been automatically canceled and made available for people who were there!

I think you need to rethink your reservation policy! I and my two friends, who also had camping trailers, were not happy!

Spent 1 night here with 4 adults and had an awesome time. The campsite was clean, easy to access, and filled with wildlife. Elk and bison wandered through our campsite at night and in the early morning. The stars were bright, and we saw the ISS and a batch of Starlink satellites. The fire ring had some leftover fire wood in it, the bathrooms were warm and clean, and the picnic table was large and heavy duty. Couldn’t have been any better.

We love Mammoth Campground, YNP, because of the nearly always present elk, bison, and mule deer in the campground, the clean and warm restrooms, the friendly campground hosts and staff, and the proximity to daytrip destinations within YNP.

Yellowstone is a gem. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day visit. The campground was very comfortable and we loved the wildlife wondering around.

Stayed 4 nights at Mammoth this year 2022. Rained a few times but the tent site sat on a gravel bed with an awesome view. There was a bear box to store food, water jug, stove. There are numerous water spigots in the campground and decent bathrooms, but no showers. The CG hosts routinely drive by in their golf carts checking on guests. One day about 11 am a herd of buffalo started to approach the CG, could hear them snorting when a few hundred feet away, and though I was present making noise, they were unfazed and finally I got in my car for 20 minutes till the buffs passed. Mammoth CG is located a short distance from the hotel and visitor center. A trail allows people to walk between the CG and main visitor area. Nearby is a trailhead to the Beaver Ponds..a 4 miles RT hike or 5 mile loop..where dozens of elk bed down. One of my favorite stops is the Map Room of the Mammoth Hotel where I can sit and read, have a cocktail from the bar and a piano player starts about 5 PM. Fortunately or unfortunately, internet and cell service is sketchy at best. Need to drive 5 miles to Gardiner, out of the Park, if service is needed.
