Despite being smack dab in the middle of the tent/car camp area (site 78 - with a nice shade tree), as well as being near the highway, the site was generally quite, sans one annoying neighbor shouting at their dog incessantly. The site, table and cooking grate were reasonably clean and level. The restrooms were clean and more developed than I expected (flush toilets). Staff, and most of the neighboring campers were very pleasant. We didn't get that vibe of being overtly supervised/policed. If you can get your reservation in early enough, the nicest sites appear to be along the periphery, especially on the north end of the campground.

quiet campground . loved having elk roaming through during this time of the year and hearing their rutting calls. ranger was very friendly and the hosts stopped by to give us their firewood

The campground is tucked in an S curve of the road, so you hear traffic pretty early and pretty late. We had 2 rather unlevel sites, but we adjusted okay. Just being in the park is wonderful and we had elk bulls bugling right through the campground on numerous occasions. Nice ranger/ employees as well.

We had site 2. Right across from the check in station. While it was separated from the campground road by some bushes, the vehicle engine noise and diesel fumes weren’t pleasant. Our site, and the other motorhome sites there that I saw, were not oriented so you could step out your door and use your picnic table and fire pit. Campground volunteers and rangers were very friendly and helpful. Not sure if I would stay here again.

We only stayed 1 night here (and it was our only stay *in* any of the 3 national parks we visited) and my kids loved it! They loved seeing animals in the campground and the bathrooms were clean. We'd stay here again.

Elk were common around the campground - very cool. Facilities were some of the nicer ones I have experienced at national parks. Sites were large and comfortable. If you are sleeping in a tent, you will most likely need to use rocks to secure it as the ground is quite hard!

Policies & Rules
General
- Mammoth Campground is managed by the park. If you are looking for campgrounds managed by Yellowstone National Park Lodges (Fishing Bridge RV Park, Bridge Bay, Canyon, Madison, and Grant Village campgrounds), please visit the Yellowstone National Park Lodges Camping website.
- RV or Camper Unit Delivery Prohibited. The delivery or pick-up of out-of-park RVs or other camper unit rentals is prohibited.
- Notify the Campground of Late Arrivals. To notify campground of late arrival or cancellation please call 307-344-2289
- Parking. All wheeled vehicles including trailers and motorcycles must be parked on parking pads or established roadways, so as not to block or restrict traffic in campgrounds.
- Camping Occupancy Limits. Maximum occupancy is six people per site. Camp only in designated sites. Camping is limited to 14 days from July 1 through Labor Day and to 30 days the rest of the year parkwide. The 44 day camping limit includes both concession- and park-operated campgrounds.
- Wildlife/Bear Regulations. ~Keep all food and related items - beverages, cooking utensils, stoves, pet food and, empty or full, food and beverage containers such as coolers, ice chests, and water jugs - locked inside your vehicle or stored in a food storage box, unless in immediate use. Bear resistant food containers must be kept in a vehicle, in a hard-sided camping unit, or in a food storage box. ~All trash and garbage must be disposed of in the provided bear-proof trash cans. Do not leave food related trash or garbage unattended. ~Washing dishes or clothing at campground hydrants or spigots is prohibited. Carry all dishwater/wastewater to the restroom toilet for disposal.
- Campfires and Firewood. Wood and charcoal fires are permitted. Campfires are permitted only in established fire grates. Fires must be attended at all times. Only dead, down, and detached wood may be gathered. Wood should not extend outside the fire grate perimeter. Do not break limbs off of standing trees, living or dead. Drown campfires thoroughly with water to make sure they are completely out. NOTE: Wood and charcoal fires may be subject to special restrictions due to fire danger. Restrictions will be listed on campground information boards and on the park's Current Conditions page. Propane grills and stoves are not usually affected by fire restrictions.
- Quiet hours are strictly enforced. No loud audio devices or other noise disturbances will be allowed during this time. Generators are prohibited between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Generators must be turned off durng the day when campsite is not occupied by site renter.
- Stay on Boardwalks and Trails. All travel in thermal areas is restricted to NPS designated trails and boardwalks.
- Fishing. To fish within the park, people 16 years of age and older are required to purchase and carry on their person a Yellowstone National Park Fishing Permit (you may purchase in advance). To learn more about fishing regulations, visit the park's Catch a Fish web page.
- 30 ft RV limit. From November through April.
