We travel full time and our Ocean Canyon/Venture Out members. We've stayed in countless campgrounds, including all of the Ocean Canyon and a few of the Venture out parks. This park is by far the worse. The staff can rarely be found and they have NEVER answered the phone when we call. Once there was a couple yelling/fighting and I had to go all over the park to get someone to handle it. We stayed here about two months and never did the bathrooms or washing machines work. Nothing was being done to fix it. During our stay the gate broke and instead of fixing it they just got rid of the gate. There was a problem where sewage back flow started to happen in our spot so we got someone to look at it. He did nothing. They next day someone finally is dealing with it and currently can't fix the problem (I'm just waiting for them to tell us we have to move instead of fixing the issue). There's poo water all over the ground and no one seems to care. We love Ocean Canyon and Venture Out. We typically have very pleasant stays and we aren't hard to please. Styx River really needs to be upgraded. If we had stayed here before buying in, we would not have bought in.

If you like nature, the river, or fishing, as we do you will enjoy this resort! It's January so the outside pool is closed but the inside, heated pool is open. The staff have are pleasant and ready to help you with any need they can help you with. Come see Carl for a full view of the natural surroundings and available options. No pressure.

Dan was a great tour guide and sales person. Couldn’t have asked for a nicer guy. Friendly and professional.
Edit: now that we’ve moved on… this is a timeshare nightmare. The campground isn’t terrible but it certainly isn’t what we were looking for. Sand and some gravel for roads. Super nice staff trying hard to make things as nice as possible. VERY OLD infrastructure. Should have been torn down and replaced a long time ago. The sales group touts future improvements but if you look at older reviews, the needed changes have been called out for years. Back to the timeshare sales pitch. You will have a few minutes to make a $15,000 decision. Take it now or lose it. Hilarious sales tactics. Dustin was nice until we said we need time to think it over. He was incensed and rude. “We have people beating down our doors for this deal!” I really doubt it Dustin. Beware if you get an invite for free nights. We felt a little dirty after the sales pitch. Glad we were leaving the next day…

Extremely Disappointed with Styx River RV Resort in AL
Our sweet friends invited us on a camping trip and were kind enough to book a campsite for us at Styx River RV Resort in Alabama — a full month ago. Everything was confirmed and good to go… or so we thought.
Fast forward to just one week before the trip, and we get an email from the resort asking for photos of our RV. One month after the reservation was made! Why does the appearance of our RV matter at a campsite? Isn’t camping about enjoying the outdoors — not about judging people’s vehicles?
We reluctantly sent in photos, assuming it was a routine check. To our shock, they rejected our reservation — based solely on the look of our RV. The trip is one week away, and now we’re left scrambling.
Not only is this unacceptable customer service, it reeks of discrimination and poor judgment. They had one job — honor a confirmed reservation or at least review everything up front. Instead, they waited until the last minute to deny us, with no regard for the disruption and disappointment it caused.
Honestly, they may have saved us from spending our hard-earned money at a place that clearly doesn't value all campers equally. But still — do better. Hire competent people to manage bookings and stop judging guests by what they drive.

My sister is a member and reserved a cabin in June for my birthday, which was fun. We hiked/ walked around the property, down the river walk to the river. Then my daughter and youngest 2 grandbabies came out and we played in the pool. The people that work there are friendly and helpful. We enjoy playing pool or other games in the clubhouse. They have covered dish supers some evenings for campers as well as other activities. They also have a small inside pool you can relax in.
