Beautiful spot and adorable house. I will return during a different season. Almost no heat made it freezing to stay here.

The bunkhouse is more rustic than the other cabins we have visited, but the location more than made up for it. We visited in winter- so it was pretty chilly. Unfortunately, the baseboard heaters were not sufficient- so we were pretty cold most of the time. All of the equipment was in working order. Please don't forget to clean before you leave so that the place is set for the next visitors.. These nature hike was beautiful, as was the scenic vista. We also liked the trials at the end of the road by the other camping site- there we saw water which is always great. There were deer everywhere and lots of birds. There are geocaches around, We had to load them when wifi was available at the visitor's center, and then go find them (our gps was pretty wonky- so we were successful half the time). We would definitely go again.

Wonderful place to stay in Cave Creek Canyon if you don't want to camp. Fully equipped with all the amenities but rustic. No housekeeping so you need to clean before you leave. Make sure you bring sheets, towels, pillows, cleaning products, etc. The view from the front porch is fabulous!

Feeling a little sad and lonely over Thanksgiving, I decided that I wanted an adventure and man did I get one! The cabin itself is absolutely lovely. The beds are comfy enough and I was really impressed by the nice dishes and pans. Much better then I was expecting for a rental.

That said, only the day of my arrival was dry. That evening it started to rain and when it rains in the canyon it RAINS. The cute little babbling brook behind the cabin went dry and a full river of water appeared in the wash across the road from the cabin. Despite the flooding, it wasn't raining too bad so I was still able to go out and hike a bit. Rocks were slippery, but by being careful you could still get out. It didn't stop raining though and that meant it didn't stop flooding. Even the roads leading out of Portal started to flood and with that I decided to bail a day early. The last road out of town was starting to flood at that point. I had to stop the car and walk the road to make sure my car would make it through, but it was only a few inches deep.

You'd think that such an experience would make me never want to come back, but the opposite it true. This is my new favorite area and I'll definitely be back. I hope to be back in the spring to do some bird watching as they come back to the area. And I would for sure rent the cabin again, especially if I can manage to swing it when there's not as much rain!

10/10 would absolutely have an adventure there again.

The cabin was a fantastic place to stay. Had everything we needed and location could not be better. Tons of hiking in the area and the scenery is to die for! Only two gigs; better heating would be good and replace the mattresses. Other than that I would stay there again. Thank you!

Cozy apartment in a very good location. It may be hot inside since there is no conditioner.
