About Mather Campground

Due to high demand, Mather Campground recommends reservations during peak season: March 1- November 30. You may book reservations up to 6 months in advance. Mather Campground is on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Grand Canyon is one of the most inspiring landscapes on Earth and draws over five million visitors per year to its spectacular scenery. Mather Campground is large and can accommodate a variety of needs and comfort levels. It is the only campground within Grand Canyon Village. Scenic overlooks, the park's free shuttle bus system, the Visitor Center, the general store and hiking and biking trails are all within a few miles of the campground.. The campground is at an elevation of approximately 7,000 ft. (2134 m). Summers are sunny with high temperatures generally in the 80s. Thunderstorms frequently occur in July, August, and early September. Fall and spring are mostly sunny and cool with occasional snow. Visitors should come prepared for changes in weather.

Great campground. It was incredibly quiet, though we were there in the offseason (week following Labor Day). Bathrooms are clean and easy to find. Friendly people and lots of elk! We would love to stay here again.

We had a great stay. Our campsite was nice and flat, which made setting up easy. It was quiet at night and we slept great. The restrooms were clean and well-maintained. Overall, a really pleasant experience, we’d definitely come back.

The campgrounds were beautifully maintained and felt very safe, the bathrooms were pristine, and the drinking water was easy to locate! Park rangers are active and around for help.

The plot was large enough to be comfortable, but the sound of the generator running all day and night often made it impossible to sleep. In addition, because the power went out, we couldn't shower. Sometimes you pay for services that don't work but are charged as if they did.

The check in staff are great. The cleaning crew are good. I love that security rides by a few times a day. I’ve been here six or seven times this summer. This probably makes me your best customer.

One thing I don’t like, the general store is too overpriced, I avoid it.

Great area and lots of space between campsites. Showers and laundry also available. Lots of wildlife, elk were right beside us as we sat up the tent! Best tip—listen to the Rangers—don’t leave food outside your tent! The ravens will get it in seconds. They pecked at our trash bag in the 5 seconds it was sitting by the truck before we headed to the dumpster.

Great place, although the campsites were a little too close for my taste. Toilets were incredible. At night we could hear elks.
