Manzanita.

As we arrived late afternoon, Our campsite was clean and had our reservation tag on it. We liked 12 as it had stone stairs down to campsite where we park our car... rather than hop a wall. We were courteous and let the 13 and 11 campsite locations know they were more than welcome to use the steps to access their own site. Camp host was available when needed and the creek was awesome... just about 20 steps from campsite... nice little waterfalls... if you could call them that and a lot of shade. We sat our chairs in the water... very chilly even though it was over 90 degrees outside... it still was refreshing. Slide rock was a day trip... literally a 5 minute drive away.. we were third in line and had a great day there. You have to time it right as they don't move the cones till about 758am lol would love to come back to site 12 one day... thanks for the memories

We love Manzanita. It's a small campground and it's in a great location. We always reserve our favorite site 6 months in advance. Because it's a small campground, tightly packed with only 20 or so sites , you can be at the mercy of your neighbors. If they are courteous, great. If they shout, snore or are discourteous, you're in trouble. Our first night there, a very loud group of young adults a few sites over whooped it up hollering into the wee hours, despite the posted 10pm-6am quiet hours, and no park host intervened. Great icy cold swimming holes in every direction. A couple of caveats: bring your own drinking water. The water from the spigots here is rusty colored and tastes terrible. The south exit is very tricky, a very steep driveway that goes right into oncoming traffic at the top.

Typical extended camp for us, but we’ll usually stay around oak creek for 7-10 days at a time with several day trips per year.

The downside this year was that the camp host was unfriendly and had an attitude with us. Thankfully we didn’t have to deal with them much so we don’t let those things spoil our camp. We’d just never experienced a rude and condescending camp host before. I’m unsure if we received an attitude because we know the area and are locals. The district has outsourced camp host (and ticketing agent locations such as West Fork) these past few years. They’re usually okay, but this time was unlucky. They seem to treat you worse if they sense you’re local. Our best experience has been with park rangers as hosts. We miss them, bring the park rangers back please.
