Trumbull Lake

Trumbull campground was in full bloom...the meadow by the lake was filled with wonderful colors from the wildflowers. There was a pair of Robins with a nest of three hungry young birds above our campsite...Welcome to the Opening Day for this season at the campground!
Kimo and the staff had the campsites in terrific shape...all the down branches were raked and removed and the bathrooms were really clean. There was just a few patches of snow around but it was melting fast.
Our group had three campsites and we all enjoyed some great hiking and fantastic fishing for lots of Rainbows and Brook Trout in both Trumbull and Big Virginia Lakes. We caught fish up to 5 pounds + on our favorite lures...the Hookup Baits.

kudos to Kimo for keeping the campground clean and operating.

The Camp Host has been hosting for 5 years, he is really nice. Unlike 99% of campgrounds theses days, he made contact after our arrival. Campground had potable water, which is rarely found these day. Also, though we had a reservation, there were many FCFS open sites. Lots of kids and families were having fun

Very quiet campground at 9,000 ft. with sufficient room between campsites. Weather was way cooler compared to the desert below. A small store and boat rental near by. A lot of people fishing in the Virginia lakes. Easy access to High Sierra trails. Bridgeport and Lee Vining relatively close. I would like to go there again!
The camp host was Great! Really on top of things.

I have never been to a cleaner or better managed campground. The pit toilets were always clean, especially the floors. The campground host made sure there was always TP and hand sanitizer at the restrooms and warned me about the bears sometimes looking in cars at night. He quietly drove through the campground multiple times during the day and night, which made me, a woman sleeping in her Subaru Outback, feel much safer.

Trumbell Lake is a beautiful place to visit when not hiking. It was nice to sit at the lake edge in the early evening and observe the serene beauty.

Beautiful lake and roomy campsite. Base camp for a hike up Virginia Lakes Trail to Summit Lake. Host was helpful and friendly.

The campground is really quiet and peaceful.

We were “welcomed” by the camp host (I’m assuming) with a disgruntled demeanor and a threat. When he walked up, we were expecting a “Welcome. Enjoy. If you need anything, please ask”. No. We got a mean old man telling us over and over not to back up into the preserved bushes/trees (we have a large, long bed Ford F-350 truck and were trying to back up into our camping site) and proceeded to say that he would ”drive us out of here”. Wow! Thanks, buddy! Nice welcome! Funny though, he lives (?) right next to group campers that were super loud until at least midnight and never told them to quiet down. I don’t get it!

Other than that, we loved the campground and the site #5. It’s nice and private on the end.

This was a nice campsite with plenty of shade, peaceful and quiet. Nice host.
