Except for the late spring storm (it was supposed to be 80s, it snowed the first day, rained the rest), it was great. We pretty much had the whole place to ourselves (everyone else was smart and stayed home!) We will definitely be back - later in the season.
Getting there is an adventure in itself - not for the faint-of-heart - looking down the canyon from the edge of the twisty-turny road.
We had the best space in the place - the site was great. The campground was immaculate - obviously recently remodeled. LOVE French Meadows!

It takes a bit of a drive to get to French Meadows from Sacramento, but it's worth it.
The drive by itself is beautiful and once you get there, the campground won't disappoint you.
You just need to take with you a few gallons of potable water, the campground won't provide any.

Campsite was nicely refreshed. Actual sites were freshly graded and somewhat rocky so beware beware if camping in a ground tent. Also, website asks that you buy wood on-site to prevent bringing bugs in from foreign firewood but the camp host said he didn’t have any wood to sell this year and said we should just scrounge around the campsite to find some, but at the same time said don’t leave extra wood at the campsite. All in all a good experience, just a few cautions. No easy access to the lake even though you’re close. It’s a very steep/rocky descent to get to the water.

Had a great time at the reservoir. It was great to unwind without cell service. The road in is pretty steep, but just take it slow and you’ll be fine. I didn’t talk to the camp host much but he seemed friendly and looked like he had firewood for sale.

Overall great campground. Facilities were recently renovated and very clean. Site 37 was very spacious. No cell service. Water was off for the time of my reservation but was notified in advance, was able to get supplies in Foresthill

High clearance vehicles may take Foresthill Rd to the 43 Rd (Robinson Flat Rd) to Mosquito Ridge Rd, snow permitting. Access from Soda Springs and the 43 Rd is not recommoned to trucks with trailers, motorhomes/RV's or passenger vehicles that are not high clearance vehicle with four wheel drive.
The campground is on the south shore.
The nearest major road access is via Foresthill Rd and Mosquito Ridge Rd, but there are no interstates or major highways within 25 miles of the campground.

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
