What Guests Are Saying
Lake Sonoma offers a beautiful camping experience with scenic views, ample space for tents, and access to water activities, making it ideal for boat-in camping. Many sites provide a mix of sun and shade, though some may require maintenance and cleaning. While issues with trash and yellow jackets have been reported, overall visitors appreciate the tranquility, solitude, and opportunity to connect with nature.

The water level is extremely low. Plan on a steep, difficult hike up to all sites. The vault toilets were disgusting and full of spiders. Shoreline is pure mud.

Lake sonoma water levels are very bad.
You should not allow people to reserve boat in campsites. Ours was not accessible and we ended up booking a separate campsite from the marin at the top of the hill.
Not to mention all the hazards with the lake level so low. Boating through trees is not safe.
Shame on you

I had a wonderful time kayaking and camping at Lake Sonoma. I was very grateful I picked the site I did because with the water levels so low, I never would have been able to access any of the other sites. My site was perfect! Nice and level and easy to access. I had a beautiful view of the sunrise and a wonderful tailwind on the paddle back. The strong headwind getting to the site was challenging but not impossible. I would definitely do it again. My only complaint is regarding the signage of the sites, it was basically non-existent. If I hadn’t thoroughly researched the site and seen it through a satellite view online, I never would have found it.

Great place to do some boat in camping. Lake is still pretty low.

Easy, simple, clean; camped hiked, ran. Pretty quiet off-seasan. Trails could be marked better as there is no cell service.

When we got to the boat in ramp it was closed. The water was super super low and we had to lug out all our supplies to the waterline (which was more that 500ft from
the car and again, there was no ramp or easy way to get there) we had planned to boat in with. This took several hours and was a major inconvenience. The trail down to the waterline was extremely muddy and hard to traverse especially carrying any type of supplies. By the time we finished loading up the boat, it was dark. We could not even find the campsite as there were no markers. I am exhausted and have bruises all over my body for something that should have been quick and simple if the ramp had been open. They should put a disclaimer when the water level is low or as to which boat ramps to use and which are closed! Will not be coming back.

The site locations on the recreation.gov site are massively incorrect. All the sites for a given campground are within close proximity and accessed from the same landing site.
