The campground didn't have running water - the spigots were dry. The people working there drove around with a truck to sell water and fire wood (both for $10! Bring cash). You can't park in the day use areas if you have a campsite reservation - you have to pay an additional $10 to park at the day use areas. This place nickels and dimes you. People were so rude to leave trash on the beaches, especially in the day use areas. The water was chilly, but the warm air made it so nice to swim. The canyons were beautiful.

what great managers; competent, friendly and social, but vet deliberate and intentional. clearly determined that your experience is positive.
I am SO DISAPPOINTED that a starter with as many resources and talented people allowed the well to go dry and destroy the infrastructure of a wonderful park. The park system lost some points with me over that one. And the delay getting it rare-aired - the fact that this is not a public health concern and warranting immediate attention - baffling. a poor poor reflection on CA Leadership. But our experience (with internal plumbing and ample water in a trailer) - really wonderful.

No water at campground due to a broken pump/pipes. More than 6 weeks with no resolution. Porta-Pottys inadequately maintained given large number of campers. Beware that there is an additional $10 fee to use the day use area for those campingeven if you park for 5-10 minutes.

We came back from hiking at Pinnacles National Park to find ourselves in a literal sea of young children. I counted 27 tents in two campsites, and there must have been 70 people occupying them. Right next to our trailer--not in one of their campsites--they had erected a slack line and gymnastics set up, and this is where they assembled prior to an evening walk.
How was this allowed to happen? The regulations say no more than 8 people per campsite. There is a group campsite outside the regular campground that could have been used.
Oh, and there was no water at the campground at all. We were self-contained in our travel trailer, but with that group, there must have been at least 125 people in a very small campground with maybe 8 porta potties. We left early the next morning.

Campground water was turned off, and showers were obviously unavailable. Yet, they continued to charge full price for much less than full service. Poor, at least until they can get their infrastructure fixed.

The primitive campsites were beautiful and we had a great experience! The pit toilets weren’t too bad the there was a spout with running water. Every employee we interacted with during our stay was super nice and helpful and recommended some great spots to hike to. Our favorite part of the trip was swimming in the river. Would love to go again!

Coming from the south on Highway 101 to Greenfield, take the first exit (Arroyo Seco) into town. Turn left on Elm Street and go west to Arroyo Seco Road and turn left. Arroyo Seco Road dead-ends at the campground.
Coming from the north on Highway 101, just past Soledad, turn west onto Arroyo Seco Road and continue to the campground.
Arroyo Seco is accessible via CA-101, which is approximately 18 miles to the west, providing connection to other major highways in the region.

General
- WHEELER GORGE IS CLOSED STARTING AUGUST 4TH, 2025-DECEMBER 31, 2025. DUE TO HABITAT RESTORATION PROJECT.

- The road to get from Arroyo Seco to Big Sur is around 70 miles on a very curvy road which is approximately a two hours' drive.
- All single campsite reservations are good for 6 people and 1 vehicle. The maximum number of people per site is 8 ($10.00 additional charge after 6 people). Maximum number of vehicles per site is 2 ($10.00 additional charge for 2nd vehicle).
- Please use caution in the river; water can be swift and dangerous in the spring
- Weather conditions can change rapidly; please check prior to arrival
- Insects may be present; please bring appropriate provisions (repellents, etc.)
- Reservations can be made three days in advance.
- Single sites include one vehicle in the use fee. Double sites include two vehicles in the use fee. Any extra vehicles will be charged at the campground for $10/night per vehicle.
