What Guests Are Saying
Butte Lake Campground offers a beautiful, quiet location with clean facilities, access to hiking trails, and a serene atmosphere surrounded by nature. Many visitors enjoyed the stunning views, wildlife interactions, and recreational options like kayaking and swimming. However, concerns were raised about the rough access road, lack of cell service, and limited information or support on-site, which could impact the overall camping experience.

The campground was very good. Unfortunately, I was towing my 35’ fifth wheel and the 6 mile long NF dirt road was horrible. I’d never do it again.

Totally worth the 6 mile gravel road drive to get there. Very calm and peaceful area. Some great hikes nearby. The bathroom was clean. Many of the sites are sloped (up, down, side). I was in B05 and it was definitely sloped up from the entry but had a fairly level area near the top for my 20' travel trailer. Not too much trouble to get it leveled. I am fully self contained so it worked out perfect for me to be several days without amenities. I was actually surprised to find flush toilets and potable water. I was expecting pit toilets only. The rangers came by daily to pick up trash and the bear box at the site gave us a safe place to store extrea coolers and such. The site was spacious and felt like we were in a fairy circle of tall trees while we sat around the campfire. I definitely want to return to this area and spend more time checking out the entire park. Very beautiful and interesting. I live very close to Yosemite and this was a nice change from the hoards of people. We loved paddle boarding around the lake in the clean, calm water. This will be a favorite on my list of camping destinations.

After driving for 4 hrs, we reach the unpaved road to the campground. What no one said it was 7 miles of washboard road. It was so bad I could only go about 10pm the entire time. Finally reach the campground and drive up to the sites I reserved a month in advanced and 2 of the 5 have yellow caution tape. They moved the 2 sites about 10 sites away. No email or text or call. They emailed us twice to remind us about the reservation and my wife called them to confirm everything the week of, and they said everything was good to go. I reserved 5 sites together because we had family coming. 3 of our kids and 8 grandchildren, 2 sets of grandparents and a brother in law all from 3 different states. So after about a day of back and forth, cause there was a small hill between the 3 sites at the top and the 2 at the bottom. We abandoned the 3 sites and all stayed on the 2 sites because they were bigger. No one to explain, no camp host. First and last time there. Wasted money and time.

We stayed in site B6 with ourSprinter and Alto trailer. It was pretty flat and mostly shaded but we did use an awning due to the heat (low 90s in July). We had a major hailstorm (1hour) and downpour for 3 hours but no major damage.
