What Guests Are Saying
Butte Lake Campground offers a beautiful, quiet location with clean facilities, access to hiking trails, and a serene atmosphere surrounded by nature. Many visitors enjoyed the stunning views, wildlife interactions, and recreational options like kayaking and swimming. However, concerns were raised about the rough access road, lack of cell service, and limited information or support on-site, which could impact the overall camping experience.

Hike to the Cinder Cone is a must do as is kayaking Butte Lake. The campsites are large…the only issue we had was driving 6 miles on a dit road to get to the campsite.

Absolutely breathtaking. The lake was amazing. The campground was very nice. We will definitely go back. There is not cell service in most of the park so be prepared for that.

Well taken care of – good amenities in the way of bathrooms, potable water, etc. Large campground but did not feel overly crowded. Would certainly recommend a visit if traveling through Lassen.

This campsite is off the beaten path. There’s a a pretty rough gravel (washboard) road for several miles to get there. Believe it or not, going 30mph (speed limit) makes it feel smoother than slower speeds. Once you’re there, it’s a nice spot to camp other than pesky mosquitoes at sunset and early morning while we were there. The bathrooms were some of the best we’ve experienced camping.
Cinder Cone is amazing, definitely don’t miss out on that!

Would definitely reserve again. Had to travel about 6.5 miles on a gravel road and cell phone service is very spotty. The lake and hiking trails were a very short walk away from the campgrounds. Cinder cone volcano was a short hike (about 1.5 miles) away on the trail. Once at the base of cinder cone it is a good 800ish foot hike up the volcano to the top, not an extreme hike but it is a bit of a challenge and got some cell phone service as we ascended. I would recommend booking any site at this location. My travel trailer is about 29 feet long and entering/exiting the campground was manageable.

Love this campground. It is quiet and mellow. Lots of hiking trails that you can walk to. On this trip I shared a turnout parking area with the camper next to me. Next time I would try and find a site that had its own. It was fine. Just a little close.
