About Manzanita Lake

Manzanita Lake Campground (elevation 5.9 ft.) is the largest campground in Lassen Volcanic National Park. It is within walking distance of the scenic Manzanita Lake, a popular fishing and family destination, and offers impressive views of Lassen Peak, the largest volcano in the park at 10.5 ft. The facility is conveniently located one mile south of the park entrance, close to The Loomis Museum, Loomis Ranger Station and popular hiking trails. Educational programs are presented at the museum and amphitheater.

Campsite was easy. A pull through and nearly level.
Bear box and picnic table were conveniently placed.
Fires were not allowed due to high fire risk. Understandable but evening fires were missed.
The camp store / cafe was understaffed and food was not available in the evening.
Enjoyable stay.
Would stay here again.

This is a decent place to stay to visit Lassen from the northern side. A couple of years earlier we visited from the South and most of the park was closed to us because of snow. We did not use the bathrooms or spend a lot of time in the campground. The sites do not have hookups and the site descriptions here are like others on rec.gov a crapshoot. We took a chance on the only site available that said we would fit and we did fit, barely. We were very happy to have a spot. No hook ups and not much solar as it is well shaded. The sites and roads are pretty tight in this campground, our travel trailer is 26 ft and while we saw bigger campers, some had to park off site. We were able to get internet with help from Travlfi in spite of low signal from Verizon. There is a modest visitor center close by and a camp store that sometimes has gasoline in the campground. The dump station and water fill area is good. It was fairly convenient to the Lassen Peak trail

This was a pretty nice campground at Lassen. Our site was backed up right against another so we had some noise as it was a large group. But the bathroom and sink weren’t too far and we loved the scenery. Showers were $5 though and were located only at the store.

Although this campground is in a beautiful, scenic location, the grounds themselves were a little disappointing. I was very surprised that RVs were allowed to run their generators polluting the air and destroying the peace and quiet of nature. Also, the sundry store was well stocked with many high sugar junk food options, but really lacked staples to cook a decent campsite meal.

Nice, flat, shady spot. The campground is within walking distance of several trailheads and about a 30-minute drive from the main attractions. A dump station is available. Highly recommended!

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
