About Manzanita Lake

Manzanita Lake Campground (elevation 5,900 ft.) is the largest campground in Lassen Volcanic National Park. It is within walking distance of the scenic Manzanita Lake, a popular fishing and family destination, and offers impressive views of Lassen Peak, the largest volcano in the park at 10,457 feet. The facility is conveniently located one mile south of the park entrance, close to The Loomis Museum, Loomis Ranger Station and popular hiking trails. Educational programs are presented at the museum and amphitheater.

Very spacious sites, felt secluded even though the campsite was fully booked when we were there. Clean, simple bathrooms with a very nice camp store and very easy access to Manzanita Lake. Will definitely stay again!

The campsite was big and we had no one behind us other than just the forest at night it felt like we were alone looking towards the trees, we liked it. It was also close to the restrooms and trash cans. Even though there are trees around we did not get much shade in the morning, like the campsite next to us.

Great campground! It is located very close to the lake. There was also a place where campers could rent kayaks on the lake. If I recall correctly, it was $25 for a double seater for one hour, life vests included.

The facilities at the campground were very clean. The shower facility was locked, but for a onetime $5 fee, you were given the access code to unlock the shower. You could access the shower facility as many times as you would like for the remainder of your stay. I highly recommend this campground.

I recommend taking the short drive to Lake Helen, Emerald Lake, and Sulphur Works.

Manzanita Lake and Lassen NP are beautiful and to be treasured. The lake is wonderful for families. Unfortunately the staff has been cut drastically. We never saw a ranger, the museum at the northern entrance was closed, no one was collecting fees or enforcing rules. Visitors this year were an especially well behaved group but had been any trouble, things would have been bad.

Policies & Rules

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
