The park staff and rangers were all very friendly and helpful. The actual camp site for horses should have been located on the same side of the highway as the lake rather than across the street. We camped during the Labor Day holiday and it was too dangerous from all the traffic to cross with our mules. You need more horse only trails developed from the campsite that do not require crossing a road traveled by cars!

From Redding, California, take State Highway 44 east approximately 48 mi to the Manzanita Lake entrance of the park. The stock corral is 14 mi south of the entrance on the main park road. Upon reaching the Summit Lake Ranger Station continue approximately 1/8 mi to a "Service Road" turning off on the right. Turn right and continue up the road taking the first fork to the right which continues up the hill to the campsite and the stock corrals.
Access is via State Highway 89, which connects to State Highway 44 approximately 48 miles to the north.
