What Guests Are Saying
Overall, Carlton campground offers a generally positive experience with beautiful surroundings, well-maintained facilities, and direct river access from many campsites. While noise from the highway and nearby dogs can be disruptive at times, most campers found the atmosphere enjoyable and the other visitors respectful. The campground's cleanliness and access to local amenities, despite the closure of the nearby outpost, contribute to its appeal for repeat visitors.

The best part of this campground is that it is on the river. It is REALLY close to the road, and it's a busy highway. It was a great location to go to the nearby swimming holes and hikes though, so worth it. But if you want a peaceful getaway, I'd say the road takes away from that.

Younger group playing loud music post quiet hours. No enforcement. Close river access, clean bathrooms, easily accessible.

Couldn’t be better! Such an amazing spot!
And the new portable bathrooms are a great addition.
We go here every year and always look forward to our weekend over the gorgeous river.
Great swimming!

We are very disappointed that there was no Camp Host at Indian Valley Campground and have been told that Indian Valley is not connected with Carlton anymore. We have camped at Carlton for years and have had no instances, but we camped there twice in 2019 and had problems both times, mainly due to no camp host being present. There were campers breaking rules with dirt bikes and campers playing loud music. My husband got bit by a neighbor camper's dog when he asked them to turn now their music. With no camp host on premises, one has to walk to restaurant to call 911 and then you are still camping next to rule breakers after calling the police. Having a camp host on site would alleviate many problems. Camp Host is needed at Carlton and not just at Indian Valley Campground. We have loved camping at Carlton for years, but we will never come back unless there is an on-site Camp Host.

We have stayed at Carlton many many times at this particular spot , site#11. Very disappointed at the very large dead tree, that we pointed out to the host. We were very fearful off branches falling off and landing on our tent. A Boulder was placed in the middle of the path leading to the water that was very hazardous to our grandchildren and ourselves. Major fall hazard. After over 27 years of camping at Carlton this was probably the not so fun trip and we drove from Oregon to camp there.
