When I arrived, my site was occupied and the posted placards showed my reservation for 1 day later in the week. Due to the USFS removing all the camp hosts from the lakes basin campgrounds and the lack of cell service, I had to drive 20 minutes in order to call the local ranger district office. At which time I was told there was nothing they could do about it and to look for an open campsite. The employee tried to assist me, the lack of care by the USFS is not her doing. But hey, good job, USFS. You have made it abundantly clear the past few years, that your concern lies in the big money of logging and that recreation is just something you would rather not bother with. Pathetic approach to caretaking our national forests and supporting the tax payers use of it.

Salmon Creek campground is perfectly located for various hikes, has running water and a paved road. There is some hwy noise at times but after dark there's no traffic nearby. One outhouse has been upgraded but there are 3 more that also need upgrades. No hook ups. 18 miles from Graegle but very close to Bassett Station.

I have been camping at Salmon Creek Campground for 30+ years. My family and I camp in travel trailers and have always used campsites 22 to 30 depending on which are available. Over the 30 years we have watched the campground management change from Forest Service to High Sierra management with camp hosts to no host and now I'm not sure who is managing. My family and I love using this campground. The sites are basic but have a decent amount of room for family gatherings and group dinners etc.
For some reason this year only the newer restroom was available for use. The old vault toilets at either end of the road have been blocked off. The older vault toilets were a definite convenience depending on which site you occupied. But the real inconvience was that the only restroom was not stocked with toilet paper on a regular basis and when it was stocked the one or two rolls left by maintenance were used up quickly leaving us for 2 or 3 days without any paper. The rolls left were seemingly tiny and not locked onto the bar and would mysteriously disappear very quickly, maybe men's into the women's or vice versa. So if you plan to camp at Salmon Creek bring your own toilet paper!

Policies & Rules

General

  • In accordance with standard industry practices, we will be assessing a $5 additional vehicle fee on the 'second vehicle' in each single family campsite, and on the 'third and fourth vehicle' in any double family campsite, provided these vehicles are not joined to the first vehicle by a hitch and towed onto the site. In the case of motorcycles, the first two are considered to be one vehicle and the third and fourth are also considered to be one vehicle. No additional vehicle fees are collected for bicycles.
  • Bears frequent the area; all food must be kept in approved containers
  • Utility hookups and showers are not available at the campground
  • Click here for more information on the Tahoe National Forest
  • Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed. For current fire conditions or weather closures contact the Yuba River Ranger District (530) 288-3231(voice) or, (530) 288-3656 (TDD).
  • Don't Move Firewood: Protect California's forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. For more information visit firewood.ca.gov.
  • A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date (or for day-use facilities, by check-in time the day of arrival). No-show customers are only recorded at staffed facilities. At most remote facilities, all customers are noted as automatically checked-in on the date of arrival. It is recommended that staffed facilities hold a campsite until check-out time on the day following the arrival date. It is recommended that staffed facilities hold group day-use facilities until check-in time on the arrival date. There is no change fee if a customer extends or shortens a reservation if the change includes dates from the original reservation. If they choose to depart early, they may forfeit some or all of the recreation fees. There is no change fee if the customer changes campsites that are the same price and on the same reservation dates in the same campground. If the campsite the customer is changing to has a price difference, the customer will be responsible for any additional fees or be provided with a refund, based on the price difference. Where recorded, no-show customers are assessed a $20.00 no-show fee and forfeit the first night's recreation fee for a campsite or forfeit the entire day-use recreation fee for a day-use facility. We recommend customers contact the facility if they are en route to their reservation but cannot make it by the check-in date. In these cases, no refund will be issued, but the facility can ensure that a "no-show" fee is not assessed.
