Pros: One of the larger camp sites with a roundabout drive way. Right up to the creek with a little water fall so you can hear the water in your tent. Really was a nice site layout and location.
Cons: LOTS of rocks so bring a rake of some kind(surprised no one has done this already). We had to clear by hand as to not have them poke holes in the bottom of our tent. A big rock right next to the fire pit so put a light on top of it or trip over it at night like I did.

Our first time at Wheeler Gorge exceeded our expectations. We took the last campsite available last minute and was immediately upgraded into one of the more popular sites once we were greeted by Becky the camp host. What a welcome! We enjoyed the weekend in the peaceful and well-maintained campgrounds. Upon leaving, not only had I lost my wedding band, but our vehicle didn't start. Not a great end to the trip. (Unsolicited advice, definitely don't bring your wedding rings.) However, as we were waiting for AAA, one of the camp maintenance people raked our entire site helping to look for the ring, which unfortunately we didn't find. And then, to cheer us up we watched football at the camp hosts' awesome set up with Murphy (the most loveable dog I've ever met), drank some beers, and was offered wings by the very gracious host, Bob. I mean... what a turnaround to the days events. We were so grateful for their hospitality, friendliness, and help that day. Can't wait to return! -Stef and Keith

Campground hosts were informative and accommodating. I felt really safe as a solo female camper. The entire campground as a whole is really lovely and a river passes right through it. I ended up moving sites for my second night because I sleep in my car and the car spot wasn't level. So nice of them to let me move, and they hooked me up with the perfect spot next to the creek. Set up my hammock and could have stayed there forever!

The hosts are very friendly and helpful. And I felt very secure with them checking every car that went into the campground to see if the people were registered guests at the campground. The campgrounds are well maintained as well as being in a beautiful area. I camped right next to the stream, which runs year round.

Our camp site sat above the creek and below several beautiful and old trees. It felt secluded and private away from our neighbors. It also has a half circle drive way for extra cars if needed. Also close enough to bathrooms but far enough away that you don’t hear or smell them. The camp host was friendly when we arrived and rude while we camped. We were too loud (unbeknownst to us) while conversing around our camp site and out of the dark, the camp host came roaring into our camp to yell, “I’m just dying to kick someone out this weekend and unless you don’t figure out how to use inside voices, it’s going to be you!” A kind warning would have worked just fine. Either way, great spot. Highly recommend the location of our actual camp site and the wheeler is only 10 minutes from the edge of town.

We had a lovely time camping with a preschool class! We had a great stretch of campsites with a secluded upper area and it was perfect for our group (sites 67-69). Beautiful space, everyone was friendly, and the camp hosts were great—came by and checked on us and offered advice for places to explore!
