About Spanish Creek Campground

Spanish Creek Campground is located on Highway 70 just east of the Highway 89 intersection; just east of where Banish Creek and Indian Creek merge together to create the east branch of the North Fork Feather River. The campground is right on Spanish Creek with a very popular swimming hole. Although the campground has been recently upgraded, it still holds the charm that it did in years past.

Good location. Manny was a great camp host. Decent fishing spots - don't expect big fish. Had cell services, text, emails, but no internet. We especially liked our site which had payment around table and fire pit. Read the comments about the train and didn't think it would be a problem, but several trains every night eventually did wear us down. Several local trails not far from campsite.

The campground is lovely and the camp hosts, Tom and Brenda, are really friendly and keep the grounds pristine. They round several times a day which also helps ensure that people follow the campground rules. The creek is fantastic with a large beach and several smaller ones along the creek. The only draw back, which kept me from giving 5 stars, is the train tracks right above the campground. The trains run through the canyon all day AND night. Right above the creek, there is a tight turn for the trains to make which causes them to apply their breaks which leads to an ear-piercing squeal. The trains are very long so the screeching goes on for several minutes (as many as 10-12 minutes) That may not seem like a long time, but when it is the 6th train in the middle of the night, it will really make you lose your manners. The first few times we stayed at Spanish Creek, the trains weren't as frequent (maybe 3-4 a day), but the last 2 times we stayed there, at least 10 or more come through---most of which are at night. I know there is nothing to be done about this issue but it is something to keep in mind when booking your stay.
