What Guests Are Saying
Mary Smith Campground offers a beautiful, secluded location deep in the woods, clean facilities, and friendly hosts, making it a popular choice for families and outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors enjoy activities like boating, fishing, and hiking, with some praising the peaceful atmosphere and ample firewood. However, some concerns include limited privacy between campsites, a steep walk to the tent sites, and issues with wasps around picnic areas.

Beautiful setting right on the lake. Beds are very comfortable in the tent cabins. I highly recommend this camping spot.

Great place - would be nice if you could cut back the poison oak more, but otherwise beautiful!

We were the only only ones on the site. The camp caregiver was always looking out for us. 2019 was his last year there. Peaceful and secluded with the sounds of nature all around. Best campground we have ever stayed at!

Too crowded near the tent cabins, no flat ground to add a tent to your site. No hiking available from site. No firewood for sale in campground.
Lake is nice for paddling, too cold for swimming.

If you don't travel light, it's a good idea to have a small wagon to haul your stuff to the tents (and back up again to the parking area). We lost a fair amount of food to the squirrels. The squirrels have learned how to get into the tents (even with the flaps/screens closed) and rummage through things looking for food. There were no food storage cabinets. The crows tore apart our bag of garbage and created quite a mess (we were only about 40 yards away at the time). No cell phone, wifi, etc. Bring a good book. We did have some AM radio reception, especially at night. Restrooms were clean. Good idea to have a backup roll of paper. Nearest showers are a couple of miles drive up the canyon. We just spent our days kayaking, fishing (not catching), and birding on the lake. Very peaceful. Would have liked to explore the Trinity Alps area a little farther north, but ran out of time. Weaverville has all the supplies, etc. you might need; the small store (gas too) at Lewiston is adequate in a pinch. Glamping here is pricey, but the relative solitude is worth it.
