Site#4 was spacious. Comfortable for 4 tents. Close by parking and restroom. Didn’t experience any raccoon. Big fire pit. Definitely would come back again. Fog horn can’t be avoided if there is fog throughout the night.

This is very much the cool spot you think it is. I stayed in campsite 3 which has the advantage having some view when standing, but just over the edge to shield from the wind.
The high grasses etc right now do a great job of making your campsite feel isolated without ruining the views. Just stand up and you can see things and your (distant) neighbors
Water is an issue. None at the campsite which seems a little silly for a $40 a night campsite. Plain water tap somewhere would do. It is unclear to me where one can even get water nearby. The heavily trafficked vista area at the top of the hill by the entrance gate (0.8 miles away) is where I thought there would be some. Unfortunately there is not. Just a grimy pit toilet in the building. If you're coming by bike, as far as I can tell, the nearest water is at the bridge visitor center on the north east side of the bridge. If you come when you must ride the east side, this is easy. If you're on the west side (like I was), you'd have to either take the detour around and through the very narrow tunnel or schlep your rig down some VERY steep stairs go under the bridge and back up the other side. NOT recommended for a loaded bike. To be clear, this isn't really a complaint (a little bit) but more just to make sure you take it seriously.

The campsite is large and fits 10 people. It has great views over the city and is your perfect short getaway from SF.

Amazing campground if you can get a reservation. So close to the city, but, with only 5 really well spaced out sites, you feel secluded from everyone else. No running water. Bathrooms are clean. Only negative to watch out for: at 1:30am, when the fog rolled in under the Golden Gate, the fog horn started up and was loud enough to impact my sleep. This is probably fairly common, so I would bring ear plugs next time.

All sites are walk in only. That wasn’t obvious to us when making the reservation. Beautiful beach with views of the city and bridge. During our stay (mid-May ‘23) lots of ticks throughout the area.

a lovely quiet little known spot close to the city. spectacular views of Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, and the beach. the campsites are roomy and have several picnic tables and a box to lock away food from the critters. I saw many species of birds. Bring water

It is very doable to camp on a weeknight and go to work the next morning. It’s worth it to have a night hearing the waves and getting to be in the headlands for sunrise and sunset without having to deal with parking.
