East Meadow Campground

This place attracts inconsiderate campers. I made a reservation for weekdays to avoid the weekend crowds, and ended up across from a group of about 15 kids who partied each night screaming and blasting music until after 1 am. The camp host was AWOL as far as I could tell. Several RVs ran their generators from about 7 am to 10 pm each day. While the scenery is great, make sure you bring earplugs.

Campground was nice and clean....a little too crowded and the campsites are pretty close to each other. The reservoir was nice and being on the east side of it the sunsets were great.

I was told I did not need a reservation for Saturday night may 29. It’s a free for all. I was assured I’d be fine in spot. When we arrived someone else was allowed to reserve!! Total crap! So we had to leave.
Also not sure if there was a camp host or not but someone in camp site 10 across from restrooms turned on there metal music at 430 am and played it until 630!!! Total crap! If u have a host camp you need a new one! The music was full blast!! It was miserable!

The campgrounds were closed because of the fires. I did not go to East Meadows for a long planned vacation. The fires were not even close to the campground. And I was still charged. I really hate California politics. Such a joke.

The camp host Dianne was amazing!!! She was very personable and nice. The campground is as expected for where it is. We were staying there for deer hunting so we weren’t in the campground much but it was super clean and beautiful.

Lots of extremely loud people partying, yelling, and fighting all night long. It was an open campground without privacy, the lake was okay. I wouldn't camp here again.

This is our favorite campground. We appreciate camp host diane. She is helpful and friendly.

Spacious double site, great for 2 families. Lake access was amazing. Clean bathrooms a plus. We'll be back.

The area is wonderful, we kayaked and swam and managed to have a good time with friends we camped with. I would give it a 5 star for the area beauty, but the campground was not well taken care of. Some empty sites were not cleaned up (though ours was okay.) Bathroom had toilet paper, but was not cleaned daily. But the biggest complaints, all the dumpsters in the campground were overflowing the day we arrived (a Sunday) until we left (a Wednesday) and the overflow was just growing. Campers are encouraged to use the bear-proof storage lockers as bears frequent the area, yet they leave the dumpsters overflowing for days on end! Second big complaint, they closed the RV dump. It was open when we arrived, closed when we needed it, and we had a heck of a time finding a RV dump as Cabela's was closed also. These are important issues to campers and it would seem to avoid illegal dumping and garbage strewn about, they should be important issues to those that are in charge of maintaining public campgrounds.

A pretty campground on the reservoir. Very friendly host. Bathrooms are clean and there's water available for most campsites. The road in from 89 is quite narrow, so as first time trailer owners it was a little hair raising. It appears very badly maintained for the first 1/4 mile, but improves thereafter. The signage is not great - we overshot the East Meadow turnoff the first time and had to turn around. There is an RV dump station, which wasn't clear from the description of the campsite, if you continue down the road past the East Meadow turnoff for a few hundred yards.

The highlight of our visit was hiking the section of the Pacific Crest Trail that passes nearly through the campground and is very beautiful, but also quite lacking in signage, and so hard to find. If you are looking for the section which heads north from the area, go out to the turn off to East Meadow from the road in, turn right as though you're driving back out, and the trail crosses the road a few hundred feet up. That's one of the few places it's marked, both on a tree with a sign and with a spray painted "PCT" on the road. There's a dirt parking lot on the northeast side of the road down to East meadow campground where you can park your car, but you can also easily walk from the campground, if you know where the trail is located.
