Azalea Campground

We loved our spot, so close to the trails to Grant Grove and to the Ranger station but a little far from the bathrooms for our preschooler. We did hiking and exploring all over the place, and we were thankful for no cell service ( T-Mobile) to focus on family, but also to be able to check on my husbands business with WiFi briefly at the Ranger station. We met some great friends in the next campsite! It was the perfect family vacation!

The site had a nice flat part for our tents and was shaded. A water spigot was nearby. The restrooms were a bit far but we liked being away from the more crowded part of the camp on a busy holiday weekend. Easy walk to Grants Grove, close to the visitor’s center and lots of hiking options.

We booked the best site with tons of opportunity for walking around and exploring behind the site!!

The campground was very clean and quiet for how many sites/people there were there. We actually never saw a Ranger or camp host in the campground, but we assume they must’ve had an active presence based on how well maintained, clean, and orderly everything was. We did try to find a ranger to ask a few questions, but although we couldn’t find them within the campground, the Kings Canyon visitor center is a short walk or drive away and we were able to buy firewood and get all of our questions answered there. We stayed in site 71. It is long and narrow, and our kids loved exploring in the creek immediately behind it and there were plenty of trees for shade and hanging hammocks. Due to its narrowness you are very close to site 70, with the sites’ picnic tables and fire rings almost feeling like they are in the same site; Thankfully, we had good neighbors. It would be a great set of sites to reserve together with friends, but the set up could easily be frustrating if you had neighbors in that site who played loud music or were otherwise loud or rowdy. The parking is also shared with site 69 and the three sites are all close together, but 69 is a little bit more set apart from the grouping. Despite proximity to the neighboring site, our children insist we must get this exact campsite again. The campground is about a 20 - 25 minute walk to the General Grant Grove and 10 to 15 minute walk to the visitor center. We spent three nights there, but was so many things to do between the two parks, we wished we had been there for an additional day.

The campsite was fine for a tent. All sites are fairly close to a bathroom.

Being so close to the sequoias made the experience special, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. That said, the choice of campsite matters, as several sites are located very close to the road. The general store is well stocked with supplies, including firewood, though prices are on the higher side.

Nice campground, great access to hiking trails.

When we pulled in we didn't like our site

Couldn't find a campground host to change our site and no service to call are change our sites.
Been trying to get a partial refund and no one will reply.
Stay at Sentinel or Sunrise.
Much nicer campgrounds.

Great campsite. Loved the meadow views. Plenty of shade too and relatively quiet here. Only downside was our original site was not level at all so we had to do some switching around with the campground and open sites to try to find a level spot for the van to sleep. Site we stayed was also further from the restroom but the walk wasn’t terrible. Saw some deer in the meadow in the early morning and campfires by the meadow were lovely too. If all the sites were level we would stay again in a heartbeat! If you are staying in a van check the site as best you can.
