What Guests Are Saying

Azalea Campground offers a beautiful natural setting with ample shaded and spacious sites, making it ideal for families and groups. Many campers enjoyed the proximity to trails, visitor centers, and stunning views of the surrounding giant sequoias. While some noted issues with bathroom cleanliness and site proximity, the overall experience was positive, with a strong desire to return for the peaceful atmosphere and convenient location between Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.

Azalea Campground is a short drive from the park entrance on Highway 180, very close to the Visitor Center. The road through the campsite is paved, as are all the pads. We towed in a tent trailer but saw everything from tent campers to huge bus-sized RV's throughout the campground. The road in hosts a few widely-spaced sites, further down, by the main restrooms, the sites are much closer together and less private. We were in site 24, which is bordered on one side with a large boulder (which blocks the line of site into the next-door campground) and the trail from the visitors center to the Grant Tree parking lot. We were a little worried about privacy with hikers passing back and forth, but with our trailer set up, the folks on the trail were largely hidden from view—we barely even noticed them. For us, it was one of the most private sites we've ever enjoyed, especially in a National Park. It's about a half-hour hike or so to Grant Tree from our spot, then another half-mile loop around the tree once you get there. Going the other way, it's 10 minutes or so to the visitors center and general store. I highly recommend bringing your own firewood if you can. There's little to gather near the campsite and a smallish box of firewood will set you back $12.50 at the time of this writing. The park is still reeling from the pandemic and last year's storms. The road to King's Canyon was completely closed while were were there, and the gift shop close to the campground was closed randomly for "technical issues." Otherwise, though we had wonderful late summer weather and a relaxing time.

Nice camp site (#22) in a beautiful section of the national park, but nearby campers playing their music constantly until well into the evening and peoples' strings of decorative lights strung around their campsites detracted from the scene. The national park's beauty and the sounds of the outdoors don't need extra music and lights that the whole camp ground must absorb.

Campground was very nice. We reserved a site, with a specific number, when we arrived, we expected to see a reservation ticket on the campsite post. There was not one there. Upon checking at the information desk, we were told to just go occupy the site. seems like this process could be improved. Also, there was a campfire ash collection container that was way overflowing, people were just dumping ashes on the ground next to the bin, defeating the purpose of the bin. The park is fabulous, once in a lifetime experience.

Lot 110: beautiful location with boulders and quiet stream passing nearby. Nearby bathroom and fresh water with sink. However, campground was at a moderate incline, the parking spot was 50-60 ft away from the camping area, and there was no bear-safe trash or recycling nearby.
